Kim Jong-Un made his second speech at a major public event since taking power in December, addressing a children's rally aimed at winning a new generation's support. The speech was organized to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Korean Children's Union founding.
During the speech, the young members of KCU started to burst into tears.
Was the festive speech such a touching one?
The whole over exaggerated scenery looked like a scam with extremely proficient musical actors. Kim Jong-Un, is it really worth being a leader who wants to be shown to the outside world to be a respected leader of warm-heartedness, at the cost of brainwashing innocent kids to burst into tears?
No matter how hard you try, what we see is a leader who is propagandize military-first policies, and idolizing yourself in front of innocent kids.
Don't you think it's about time that you grow up?

If your country were being run by that guy, you'd cry too.

The scary thing about North Korea is that this guy isn't in charge. Kim Jong Il spent years purging the military in order to put the party in control of North Korea, after suppressing some serious rebellions in the ranks (whole brigades fought open engagements against him when he was declared Kim Il Sung's successor). Li'l Kim lacks any of his father's or grandfather's skills at controlling the state apparatus, and the NKPA General Staff is now running the country, with him as a figurehead. Unfortunately, they have no experience dealing with the rest of the world, and they have been extremely inept thus far. China recently summoned a North Korean delegation to Beijing in order to read them the riot act over their missile launch, which they did not clear. North Korea's only real ally is China, and if the Chinese lose patience with them, then the current famine will look like an all-you-can-eat buffet compared to what happens when the Chinese shut off the aid spigot.

The Norks know that they cannot win, or even sustain, a war with South Korea. They don't have the fuel reserves to operate for more than a couple of days, but in those few days, they can wreak havoc and inflict serious human costs on the south. That's their trump card, and if they can successfully field nukes, then it simply makes that card more powerful. It also means that they will export that capability to anyone with the means to pay, which means that non-state actors will be ponying up to become nuclear powers.

It's a society even more heavily policed and oppressed than Saddam's Iraq, it would be death and concentration camps (Also death, just slower and more painful) for anyone who expressed such an idea and his whole family. That means it would have to be done by a lone actor with the means and access to do that. The people with the means and access are all on the highly-advantaged side of Nork society and no matter how much of a good idea any of them individually might think it to be deep down inside, even taking sacrifice of his or her own life as a given, none of them are going to do something likely result in the protracted and brutal deaths of all their innocent friends, associates, and family members.

You need to understand that their world is so tightly controlled that most of them are likely unaware that an alternative exists. When one is born into slavery one would only recognize one's condition if they had something to compare it to. Sadly, the people of NK are offered no such point of reference for the most part.
