CHICAGO (AP) Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says the outbreak of violence the city saw over the weekend is intolerable and his department is working to fix it.

McCarthy calls the issue a "day-by-day, minute-by-minute struggle." He told WFLD-TV that 75 to 80 percent of the shootings in Chicago are the result of gang violence and the availability of firearms is also an issue.

McCarthy adds that Chicago's gang problem goes back decades so it can't be fixed overnight.

His comments come after eight people were killed and at least 40 wounded over the weekend.

Police say the deaths include two people shot when someone opened fire at a party in the city's Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood late Sunday. The other victims include a 16-year-old boy who was shot outside his home Saturday.

Good thing there were not any white Hispanics charged as shooters.
Al and Jesse would then have to actually give a shit.

Chicago is an incredible shithole that is quickly overtaking Detroit and Camden as the country's deadliest city. And can someone refresh my memory as to who is from Chicago and who is mayor of Chicago?

Breaks my heart to agree with you. But agree, I must.

It was a great city once - warts and all. Still got great baseball!:smile-new:

I will always love Chicago. There are just more neighborhoods to avoid now. :evil-grin:

I feel for you.

I love Detroit, have loved Detroit since I was a little kid and we'd come here to visit family or go to Tiger games. At least Chicago still has downtown shopping. We haven't had that since 1980 something, when Hudsons closed their downtown store.
