If the GOP had full control, would slavery be on the table?

The Republican Party has become so bugshit insane that I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Their agenda includes “Screw the economy; Screw jobs; Screw unions; Screw education; Screw women; Screw decent pay; Screw fair elections; Screw anyone who doesn’t watch Fox; Screw anyone who hasn’t downed the Kool Aid;” – well, you get the idea.

So why would anyone believe that if Republicans gained control of the House, the Senate and the Presidency that slavery wouldn’t make a comeback? But this time it would not be blacks only. Brown people, Muslims, non-English speaking peoples and “left-wing socialists” would all be eligible for providing free labor to the privileged class.

This post may sound way out there. But I can remember a time when there were still some normal/sane people in the Republican Party. No more. So what’s to stop today’s Party of the Insane from doing any damn thing they wanted to do? The Supreme Court? Don’t hold your breath.

What I find really scary is that they actually believe this non-sense they think up.

Lord knows we've tried, but that damned 13th Amendment keeps geting in the way. Maybe we could just erase it and tell people that like there is no 13th floor in buildings, 13 was skipped over in the amendments.

4. slavery already is on the table. It's just not called that.

Imprison people for victimless "crimes," force them to work at menial jobs for pennies/hour, charge them outrageous prices at the (company) commissary store.

Sucker people into huge loans, then pull the rug out from under them so they can't sell out, move away, or ever be free of them. Mortgages, student loans....take your pick.

Then again, the most nutty of the tea party nutcases at work launched a defense of old south slavery last winter. "It wasn't the way people make it out to be. Most owners were kind to their..." She swallowed the last word. I think she got stuck at "darkies" when she tried to turn it into something less overtly racist.

So they might re-institutionalize it, rationalizing that most owners are "kind" to their "property."

16. Republicans give a rats ass about the Constitution???

Where have you been for the past couple of decades?

Further, machines haven't replaced most service industries.

And let's not forget the "I have much more than you" factor. The super wealthy love their mansions, yachts, private jets (all of which would be run and cared for by slaves).

Hell, I can imagine State Fairs where owners could show off their prize slaves who they would put in competition for blue ribbons.
Liberals spout off about these delusions and then in the next breath claim that they are rational and intelligent.

It's irritating. On the other hand it is immensely entertaining.:biggrin-new:

Slavery is only an option for the OWS protestors who were protesting on behalf of child exploitation. It's fitting, considering they are supporting the sexual slavery of children.

There is one thing in the OP I agree with, I know it's hard to believe there's anything to agree with.

Funny how these people can't see the forest through the trees. Slavery is already on the table but this time around it's called welfare. They make as many people as possible slaves to the government and keep them there only to keep themselves in power. Besides, it was a Republican who freed the slaves, why would the GOP want to re-slave them? Oh, and BTW, the GOP had full control from 2001-2006 and not one slavery policy was put into place. Oh, and I love the poor poor little prison inmate line. Those poor murderous, raping, child molesting babies.

The Kool-Aid crack -- which they stole from us, incidentally -- is particularly ironic.

I think Cyrano is homophobic, too, because he left out "Screw gays."

It's chilling to know that there are people who believe such things living amongst us... driving cars in the opposing lanes... bagging our groceries... emptying our garbages at our schools and offices... handling our food at McDonald's...

Note to the DUmmies...

Democrats are the party of slavery and obstruction of civil rights.

Republicans abolished slavery...freed slaves and passed civil rights legislation.

Your political party OWNS slavery.

Is forced prison labor 'slavery' under color of the law?

Last edited Fri Jun 22, 2012, 11:19 AM USA/ET - Edit history (2)

A thread on DU asked whether Repigs would bring back slavery if they gained full control of all 3 branches of government.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002841902

Several DUers responding to that thread argued that the current prison system with forced labor constitutes a new version of slavery (under color of the law).

This is an issue that I don't know much about, probably out of only having so many hours in the day and only so much capacity for outrage. But I would like to get a sense of the broad DU community's thoughts on the issue.

I remember asking someone awhile back what happens if you refuse to work and apparently the prison authorities can then put you in 23-hour-a-day lockdown.

I will attempt to reply to all serious responses to this OP.

Thanks in advance.

It must be exhausting to be a liberal with all the guilt and what-not.

This was on IFC recently and was a mock documentary about if the south had won the civil war. That is a secret wet dream of today's repubteakkk party.

Back to your questions I have wondered the same thing if they regain all three branches. I could see them rounding up bloggers on sites like these and imprisoning us in camps for treason and sedition by their own definition. I hate to say it but things are like the 1930's Germany here and a small minority took over. The only thing we got going is the rmoney is not charismatic.

Crap! They are onto us. You know the drill, Fire up the propaganda machine and wrap yourselves in flags! :evil-grin:
