State rep charged with domestic kidnapping, assault
Rep. Carlos “Tony” Henriquez of Dorchester was arrested early this morning on charges of domestic kidnapping and assault stemming from an incident involving a woman who fled from his car, Boston police said.
Boston police say that Henriquez, 35, a Democratic state legislator, was arrested at about 4:30 a.m. after the woman jumped out of his rented Zipcar on Forsyth Way and reached out to a Northeastern University security officer for help.
The woman, who is in her early 20s, told police that Henriquez punched her during a physical altercation in the car when he allegedly refused to return her to her mother’s home in Arlington, BPD spokesman James Kenneally said. The woman was evaluated by medics at the scene but declined further medical treatment, police said. >>>
Henriquez was bailed early this afternoon, but with a number of friends and associates with several vehicles there to assist him, managed to leave a South End police station without being seen by reporters. City Councilor Tito Jackson was among those outside the police station, and acknowledged he was there for Henriquez, but declined further comment.
Henriquez will be arraigned tomorrow on domestic kidnapping and assault charges in Roxbury District Court. In an emailed statement, House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo said the allegations are disturbing and troubling and should be taken very seriously.
