At an event in London, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said, "I'm looking forward to the bust of Winston Churchill being in the Oval Office again."

President Obama famously sent Churchill's bust back to Britain soon after coming into office. As the Telegraph reported then:

A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government's art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.

The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush's tenure.

But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks."

This is good.

Too bad he stepped in shit in the Williams interview.

Except that he didn't. Romney's comments were perfectly valid, and based on the fact that the British had screwed up the security requirements, as demonstrated by an emergency call out of British troops to augment the security. The press is manufacturing a gaffe where none exists, and his response to Williams' question about "picking a boring white guy" for Veep was priceless.

NBC anchor Brian Williams asks Romney if he wants an "incredibly boring white guy" veep.
Romney:"You told me you were not available."
