The nanny state is going after moms.

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.

“If they put pressure on me, I would get annoyed,” said Lynn Sidnam, a Staten Island mother of two formula-fed girls, ages 4 months and 9 years. “It’s for me to choose.”

Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.

With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.

“It’s the patient’s choice,” said Allison Walsh, of Beth Israel Medical Center. “But it’s our job to educate them on the best option.”

He can't do that.

Who's gonna stop him?

I mean with all the behavioral controls he's forced on the people already with no resistance...he feels he's perfectly justified in doing this.

So far he's banned:

smoking in restaurants and bars

limited the size of drinks that can be sold

imposed draconian gun control laws

restricted the use of salt in NYC eating establishments

banned trans fats in restaurants

forced restaurants to post calorie counts for basic food items

The way I am reading this, at its core is the fact that bottle feeding is a medical option available for those mothers who have some medical reason why they can't breast feed.

I am surprised at the reception to this idea here, given that the taxpayer is probably paying for a great deal of formula being used by unemployed women who are already getting every benefit available to them while watching the Price Is Right. Is there some reason why Darlene, Tanisha, and Dolores can't breast feed while sitting on their welfare checks?

BTW- The baby formula at Sweetbay is kept locked up. Apparently it's a high theft item.

Some people choose not to just because they don't want to...not for any medical reason.

Mayor Doomberg wants to force all mothers...whether they want to or not to breast feed.

There is a debate whether babies are healthier breast fed or bottle fed.

I could show you a picture of all 6 of my kids...all bottle fed and it would bust the "breast fed is better" argument to pieces.

This is just another attempt by this Autocrat to force people to live the way he wants them to.

He can do this to the NYC-owned hospitals, but he'll have a hard time imposing it on private hospitals in the city. If they were smart, they'd start serving Big Gulps to expectant mothers, just to hack him off.

Let's jut go with "Tits for Tots" or "Boobies for Babies" and give them a program they can really sink their teeth into.

Formula is locked up, and has been, starting shortly after the Tylenol scare. It's too easy to lace it with something.

Where are the feminists on this?

Which is why I said that he can't do it. He is infringing on medical conditions here. All these lunatic things he has done, I am surprised that no one tried to sue him yet. If he was a republican doing this stuff, you can can guarantee that the ACLU and every liberal in the city would filing suits left and right.

Don't forget, he is a RINO.

He is a full blown liberal passing himself off as an independent.

He was a democrat until 2001, and then switched to the republican party, and then switched to independent. So yeah, you are right, he is a RINO. He is a full blown liberal in sheeps clothing.

He is also worth $22 billion dollars (Started Bloomberg media). So why aren't the liberals saying about him being out of touch and too rich?
