Niall Ferguson: Obama’s Gotta Go

Why does Paul Ryan scare the president so much? Because Obama has broken his promises, and it’s clear that the GOP ticket’s path to prosperity is our only hope.

I was a good loser four years ago. “In the grand scheme of history,” I wrote the day after Barack Obama’s election as president, “four decades is not an especially long time. Yet in that brief period America has gone from the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. to the apotheosis of Barack Obama. You would not be human if you failed to acknowledge this as a cause for great rejoicing.”

Despite having been—full disclosure—an adviser to John McCain, I acknowledged his opponent’s remarkable qualities: his soaring oratory, his cool, hard-to-ruffle temperament, and his near faultless campaign organization.

Yet the question confronting the country nearly four years later is not who was the better candidate four years ago. It is whether the winner has delivered on his promises. And the sad truth is that he has not.

In his inaugural address, Obama promised “not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth.” He promised to “build the roads and bridges, the electric grids, and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together.” He promised to “restore science to its rightful place and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost.” And he promised to “transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age.” Unfortunately the president’s scorecard on every single one of those bold pledges is pitiful.

When an article like this appears in a liberal rag like Newsweek and/or the Daily Beast one has to wonder if pigs are flying and hell has just frozen over ...

Alright, Newsweek getting behind Romney/Ryan is enough to give me pause.

Either that or Newsweek is seeing the writing on the wall regarding this election cycle.

The left has been trying to distance itself from Obama for a while now. One of the memes is that he's really a conservative or a moderate, and that he hasn't really given socialism a chance (funny how liberals think that socialism has never been "done right" but that capitalism has, and failed). We got a taste of this from Wei, who couldn't leave an Obama thread without going on about how there was no difference between Obama and Bush, or Obama and Romney. When a leftist fails, the first thing that the left does is pretend that he wasn't one of them.

I wonder what Jay Carney's response to this will be if asked. Wait, it will be "I didn't see it, I know nothing about it." :biggrin-new:

It looks like the rats might be leaving the perceived sinking ship. Obama and extended family will probably take a lot of long, expensive vacations to squeeze the last penny out of the taxpayers.

This 'Newspeak' cover story was featured on Drudge. Even if nobody reads the article, the cover alone 'gets the message out'.

I ain't buying it. Something is rotten in Denmark with this.

I think I see a subliminal halo. It's faint but it's there. :biggrin-new:

Maybe they're thinking pity votes, since the reality says not to vote for him.

Im certain we can all agree to 'never trust the liberal media'. That said, this is a rarity. It may be a one off for them.

Im definitely going to buy an issue or two, if for no other reason than to show support for the rag when they have the courage to print the truth once in a while. Then, when they go back to being stenographers for the regime, they may continue their journey into obscurity... or bankruptcy or whatever.
