The first National Pharmacy Technician Day (NPTD) took place on July 16, 1991 as recorded by the Congressional Record. This year, PTCB will celebrate the 22nd Annual Pharmacy Technician Day on October 23, 2012 in honor of the important role pharmacy technician's play in supporting pharmacists in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.

1863 - The First Texas Cavalry left New Orleans for South Texas. The move was an effort to interfere in the trade between Confederate Texas and Mexico.

1883 - Abilene became the county seat of Taylor County.

1904 - Golfer Harvey Penick was born. He coached the UT golf team for free to twenty-two Southwest Conference titles.

1989 - In Pasadena, TX, 22 people were killed in an explosion at a plastics manufacturing plant owned by Phillips Petroleum Co.
