McCain Says He'll Suspend Campaign to Deal With Financial Crisis; Calls on Obama to Do Same; Wants Debate Postponed

John McCain asked the Presidential Debate Commission on Wednesday to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Barack Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

The Arizona Republican senator said he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged Obama to do the same.

I'm hearing, though, that the Obama campaign thinks it's on. Whether McCain is there or not? I don't know, it's still sketchy. I can see why Obama wants it to happen no matter what. He's been in a Florida hotel room for three days practicing what he'll say. Or having a microscopic teleprompter implanted in his eye.

Alaska, by contrast, has an operating budget of $60 billion, that is $8 billion more than both Illinois and Delaware combined. While serving the last two years as Governor, Sarah Palin would have overseen the writing and implementation of that $60 billion budget twice. While Governor, Palin also vetoed over 300 spending bills because of waste and cut $1.6 billion from the budget.

Sarah Palin oversaw a budget of $60 billion and cut wasteful spending in Alaska

Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (http://search.bloomberg.com/search?q=Sarah+Palin&site=wnews&client=wnews&proxystylesheet=wnews&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&filter=p&getfields=wnnis&sort=date:D:S:d1), who has joined the Republican national ticket as a tax-cutter, was a driving force in raising a tax on oil companies last year that will help swell the state's budget surplus. The increase backed by the Republican vice presidential nominee will, at current prices, raise oil revenue to $11 billion (http://www.legfin.state.ak.us/charts/FiscalSensitivityFY09Update20080822.pdf) this year -- almost twice what the state needs to fund its government -- state documents show. Alaska (http://www.state.ak.us/) also has gotten more money (http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/22685.html) from the federal government than its residents pay in taxes -- $1.75 per tax dollar in 2006, the most recent year available, according to the Tax Foundation, a Washington research group.

Let's start with the biggest part. The how much part. Is it going to be 150, 200 or 700 billion? This part is not done.

How about the who it impacts part. The part about how much the fed should intervene in private business? Not done.

The part about whether or not there will be anything for the homeowners? Not done.

The part about allowing bankruptcy judges to re-write mortgages? Not done.

How about the part about suspending the capital gains tax? Not done.

Oh, and how about this part:
McCain said the Bush administration's plan seemed headed for defeat and a bipartisan solution was urgently needed.

"I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time," he said.I ask again...what is 98% done and where did you get that figure?

WASHINGTON - After risk-taking on Wall Street brought the financial system to its knees, Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill are taking part in their own risk-taking exercise.

With Congress about to adjourn and with elections in less than six weeks, lawmakers are wrestling with what the Bush administration calls a must-pass bill a $700 billion proposal to rescue the U.S. financial sector.

But it seems increasingly questionable that the bill still in its drafting stages will pass by Congress' self-imposed deadline of Friday, when it is supposed to adjourn for the elections.

LL, if this guy was a horse...I'd have to shoot him.

I think we should just let him post at will and just excuse his behavior like you would an idiot cousin or something.

"Yes, yes, that's very nice eyelids. You're doing so well. Did you do that all by yourself? You're such a big boy. I'm so proud of you." :p

How many natural disasters does the governor of Illinois have to deal with?

The Illinois governor has already dealt with multiple natural disasters this year. Our county alone has been declared a state disaster area twice in the past 6 months. We get lots of tornadoes, floods, and all sorts of other nasties here in fly over country.

Granted our governor is a huge crook, and will be lucky if he's not indicted before his term ends, but IL governor's generally deal with their fair share of natural disasters. It just doesn't make the national news very often -- I guess we're not glamorous enough.

Jeez, now Obama is saying that he suggested this.

So he was for it before he was against it??

Look, its a purely political move in direct response to a lot of polls that suggest the election is starting to go decidely to Obama. FOX, who's polls are usually pretty decent despite the obviously biased name attached to them, put McCain at 39%, that's genuinely alarming for any campaign. McCain is trying to sideline both candidates to cool off Obama a little bit until he can try and make a play against him in a debate.

Of course he's advertently pushing the economic issue, where he said he still needs to be educated, even more to the forefront. It's a desperate move by a campaign that is falling apart.

What is McCain going to do to a bill that is 98% done?

You aren't answering my question.

Whatever McCain does will be more that Obaaahma has done in his term.

Obama and McCain are collecting salaries to be Senators, so it is nice to see one of them willing to do what they are getting paid to do rather than just focus on interviewing for their next job.

Barack has done nothing as a Senator, despite getting paid. At least one of them is willing to show some leadership and focus on doing what we are paying them to do.

I wonder how the DUmmies would be reacting if the roles were reversed...
They would be howling about how McCain does not care about America.

I am reminded of 9/11... when everyone on the Left was screaming WHERE IS BUSH???? THIS IS A NATIONAL CRISIS!!!! WE NEED HIM HERE IN WASHINGTON, LEADING THE COUNTRY!!!

And now that McCain wants to do just that, and demonstrate that he DOES put America First, and that he has HONOR and conviction for the future, Barry punts.

And the media, and the Left, let him get away with it.
And the DUmmies want to turn it into a McCain smear.

Typical.

Bizarre? You mean like actually EARNING the $160k/year that we, the TAXPAYERS pay him to be a UNITED STATES SENATOR?

Doing your job is only "bizarre" to liberals.

You don't think that Obama sitting in the pews of his racist cult for 20 years - listening to anti-whiteisms and anti-americanisms and anti-jewishisms- isn't bizarre? I sure do.

Obama would never do somthing this bizarre.

That's one of the BIGGEST problems with liberals/DIMolRATS. Your higher ground is simply gaining and maintaining power at the expense of the common good and regardless the cost. Conservatives/Republicans have a better record of unselfishly sacrificing their own political desires for the good of the country.

Uh-Bama has the same problem as you, he can not imagine risking his campaign of power. Since it NEVER crossed his mind to do something this unselfish, to actually DO something rather than talk about it, he is getting upstaged by McCain.

Get ready to read the liberal media spin about this. Of course it will be exactly the opposite arguments that were leveled against the Republicans after the New Orleans toilet flushing.

Eyelids,

Of course little Howie Dean from the Socialist Republik of Vermont was amply qualified to be President, not just VP. I drive by the tallest building in Vt once a week. It's all of 6 stories. Lefties are so full of crap they float.
