(Reuters) - The body of the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will be exhumed on Tuesday, eight years after his death, in an investigation to establish if he was murdered, a Palestinian official said on Saturday.

A French court opened a murder inquiry in August into Arafat's death in Paris after a Swiss institute said it had discovered high levels of radioactive polonium on his clothing, which was supplied by his widow, Suha.

Tawfiq al-Tirawi, in charge of the Palestinian committee overseeing the investigation, told reporters in Ramallah on Saturday "it is a painful necessity" to exhume the body of Arafat, who came to symbolize the Palestinian quest for statehood throughout decades of war and peace with Israel.

Tirawi said the Palestinians had "evidence which suggests Arafat was assassinated by Israelis". Israel denies any involvement.

The exhumation and renewed allegations of Israeli involvement could stir further tension between the Palestinians and Israel, which are observing a truce after a week of fierce fighting in Gaza.

Any positive results for polonium could rekindle Palestinian hostility toward Israel and suspicions that a local collaborator may have poisoned him under directions from the Jewish state.

This will be used to throw gas on the fire that is already burning, Israel will be made to look as though they deserve these rocket attacks just as or embassy deserved the attack in Benghazi over the idiotic video.

If he was poisoned they can always blame it on Bush.

No, wait! That would make Bush more popular. Kissinger!.....maybe.

Ah! The Israelis. Perfect!:biggrin-new:

Which country has a documented record of using radioactive materials to kill their enemies? It's not Israel.

If he did die from radiation, I'd be curious as to why the Russians thought it was necessary to kill him.

Kind of a good point, but I would think there are lots of countries that could get hold of nuclear powered poison. I have little doubt that someone will discover that Arafat was poisoned. And little doubt that hysterical Arabs will blame it on whomever they please. You. Me. Bush.......Israelis!

I find nothing unusual about a terrorist being exposed to components of a dirty bomb.

They'll believe that even if the autopsy turns up nothing. The Arabs are the most paranoid, delusional and outright nutty people outside of DU and MSNBC.

Ramallah, West Bank (CNN) -- The body of former Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat (http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/13/world/meast/west-bank-arafat/index.html)was exhumed Tuesday for tests to see if poisoning led to his 2004 death, according to WAFA, the official Palestinian news agency.

Palestinian officials hope the tests will clear up questions over whether Arafat's death eight years ago was the result of poisoning by the radioactive element polonium.

The Palestinian Authority, which runs the West Bank, says it is convinced Israel is behind any poisoning of Arafat. Israel has declined to comment on the allegation.

Forensic experts from France, Switzerland and Russia took their own samples for independent analysis, said Tawfiq Tirawi, head of the Palestinian investigation committee.

Well at least it looks like he's still dead. I was kinda hoping for a Zombie Yasser, that would have been cool!! :biggrin-new:

Reminds me of an old joke: How many pervs does it take to put in a lightbulb?

One, but it takes the entire Emergency Room staff to get it out.
