On "Bashir Live", Martin Bashir was discussing Tennessee's idea of connecting welfare payments to childrens' grades. (http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/01/29/tie-welfare-benefit-to-childrens-grades-lawmaker-defends-controversial-plan/) Goldie Taylor, the resident veteran/welfare mom/editor of a Black news website (http://thegrio.com/) protested this proposal. What was unexpected is that she admitted how welfare destroyed Black families:

(3:55 on the video at the link above)

"What happens inside these social welfare programs and what it takes to break the confines of, you know, structural poverty, that's some dangerous stuff...But he [State Sen. Stacey Campfield] isn't new to this. This has been going on for literally decades. Social welfare drove men out of households through the sixties and seventies. For instance, Black families used to be an intact family unit until social welfare came along and made it almost impossible for a Black father to remain home and for this family to get the help that it[s] needs to break the cycle of poverty..."

Of course, somehow, she uses this to argue for more more welfare....
