The supermarket took down the sign after shoppers complained it was offensive

A Whole Foods supermarket in New York has removed a sign that used a drawing of President Barack Obama to advertise a sale on chicken after complaints that the ad was offensive.

The sign outside the supermarket on Manhattan's Upper West Side, featuring an apparent caricature of Obama advertising an upcoming sale on whole organic chickens, outraged neighbor Woody Henderson.

"There are certain things that have been used to put down black people watermelon, fried chicken," he said.

A picture of Obama would offend me also, might even cause me to lose my appetite.
Who wants to view a blood sucking leech when you are shopping for groceries, very poor taste on the part of the market.

This is also extremely offensive to chickens and chicken producers!

2 things. #1, when exactly did Whole Foods make this turn to the right? And #2, are these people offended by KFC and Popeye's commercials which often feature black people and fried chicken? Probably not but it's Obama so it's offensive.

This was one whole foods store and I doubt very much they were instructed by corporate to do this.

But the CEO has been lashing out at Obama as well over Obamacare.

That he has, I've seen him interviewed on more than one occasion. It drives DU nuts.

If the drawing had been a racially insensitive one, I would understand people being upset.

But advertising has used images of Presidents before to sell products.

It's not a very good ad. Obama looks pissed off, as if he's calling someone a whole organic chicken, or is outraged at the price. And, the reference photo for the ad seems to have shown Obama actually eating a piece of fried chicken.

If it's racist to show him eating it, then was it racist for him to have chosen to eat it? Was he conforming to stereotypes that were subconsciously ingrained in him by his "typical white" grandparents? Has Obama internalized the expectations of a racist white culture? Is this an indictment of our entire culture? Or do liberals just need to get a life?

Whole Foods is very much right leaning. John Mackey wrote a long scathing piece against Obama and his health care law and he disavows socialism in general.
