ST. LOUIS - Anheuser-Busch Cos., the nation's biggest brewery, received a purchase offer Wednesday from a Belgian brewer that might be too good to refuse.

Anheuser-Busch reported late Wednesday that InBev SA gave it an unsolicited bid to buy the company for roughly $46 billion. It's unclear whether senior Anheuser-Busch executives think the deal makes sense, but shareholders may be drawn to the offer $65 a share, a steep premium over the company's closing price of $58.35 Wednesday. <snipped>What's next...Gemany buys our flag?

Well, at least the good part is that it can only improve the beer. :D

Yep, big news story here and has been for several weeks.

Glad I never got a IT job with them as I'm sure InBev will make cuts IF the bid gets accepted.
Oh well, money talks and the Busch family only controls 3-4% of the stock.

The stock deal is sweet for the shareholders. It will be a huge loss to the community. The Mayor is asking shareholders to vote NO! (he's a dem). The governor (a republican) echoes the same and is trying to do whatever is necessary to persuade everyone to vote no to the deal.

AB contributes so much to the zoo, among other charities. There's the AB theater at the zoo as well as contributions to most of the major institutions in this area. When Macy's bought out May Co, they promised to keep up the charitable contributions. That lasted maybe a month or so.

I don't particularly like beer, but will drink it on a hot summer day when visiting Grant's Farm, the FREE estate of the Busch's. There's Grant's cabin, occupied by Pres Ulysses S Grant there, a free tram ride through the deer park, with deer, bison, antelope, a free elephant show, bird of prey show and of course free beer in the Barnhaus. There are the Clydesdale stables to tour, along with a "barn" area in the Barnhauf area with all the ribbons won the the Busch's show horses, along with a collection of various wagons. It's worth anyone's while to tour it if you're in this area. Better hurry, doubt if those Eurobrewers will keep it running.

Wow - is there any chance that this will mean Bud will taste like beer someday, and not some mildly alcoholic soda pop?
