If the “tolerant” Left had their way, any child with disabilities would NEVER BE BORN.

Taking a page out of Obama’s “shouldn’t be burdened with a baby” playbook, these Leftists decided that they had enough of taking care of their special needs relative. Solution? Starve the 32-year old man with Down Syndrome to death.
Progressives refuse to see the beauty in the disability, of a child with Down Syndrome who is so unencumbered with societal trappings, they are free to simply love everything around them.

There is no excuse for starving this poor guy to death. If he was a burden to his family, there are other families and agencies that would have seen him as a child of God.

In additon to whatever prison time the coldhearted women get, they should also have to pay back all SSI benefits they received to care for him, because they obviously weren't caring for him with the money. Depending on how long he was in their custody...it could be a lot of money. Also, their release from prison should not happen until that money is paid in full-personally, I'd like to see them get life, but they probably will get charged with negligence or manslaughter, or some other lesser offense.

I volunteered at a dance in May at church for people with Down's and developmental delays. It was really fun-I volunteered as a buddy, and was assigned to a total care patient, which worked out well because I didn't have to dance or anything, I just had to be nice to her, make sure no one bumped into her, and I had to feed her. The next time, I will likely volunteer in a capacity that doesn't involve being on my feet as much.

The left celebrated when Terri Schiavo was starved to death. How is this any different?

The left celebrated when Terri Schiavo was starved to death. How is this any different?

Anyone who celebrated her death was wrong, no matter what their opinion on the legal issues involved was. I didn't support starving her to death, mainly because she didn't have a living will or anything that provided consent for that. The problem with cases like that, where the patient is so young, is that their bodies are stronger than their brains. I had a friend who had a son in a similar situation, from a car accident. He eventually died of natural causes, but was in a persistent vegetative state for almost 20 years. If they had "pulled the plug" the night of the accident, he probably would have died. But who does that with an 18 year old, the night of a car accident? By the time the diagnosis of brain damage was made, his lungs and heart were working fine and there was no plug to pull.

There is nothing in this article or the one at Life Site http://www.lifenews.com/2013/06/24/family-starves-32-year-old-man-with-down-syndrome-to-death/ to suggest that these people were "the left" or progressives or even Democrats.

As for Terri Schiavo, I guess you'll have to define your terms on "celebrated". I don't recall anyone celebrating, and I live a couple of blocks from her parents (not that the one has anything to do with the other, but that doesn't seem to bother you).

As for how it is different; are you saying that you don't know the difference between a person with Downs and a person in a persistent vegetative state?

What a horrible story! I hope those two get the maximum sentence.

Nova is correct in that there is nothing in that article that states the ideological proclivity of these two monsters, but if I had to guess, such behavior lends itself toward being fostered in minds unconstrained by moral absolutes, so to assume they likely lean Left would be an understandable conclusion to me.

I recall quite a few leftists celebrating, especially over at the ACLU, which fought to have her killed. From their triumphant press release:

U.S. Supreme Court Protects Liberty by Upholding Terri Schiavo's Decision to Discontinue Medical Treatment, Says ACLU of Florida
(http://www.aclu.org/technology-and-liberty/us-supreme-court-protects-liberty-upholding-terri-schiavos-decision-discontin)

"Protects Liberty"? Seriously?

As for how it is different; are you saying that you don't know the difference between a person with Downs and a person in a persistent vegetative state?

Since the judge in the Schiavo case refused to permit a second doctor to examine Schiavo, we will never know if she was in a Persistent Vegetative State, as her husband and his hand-picked doctor claimed. However, if Schiavo was in a PVS, then she was incapable of feeling anything, and there was no reason to rush the decision and not have a second opinion, especially since the facts of the case were in dispute. If, however, she was not in a PVS, then the decision to starve her was cruel, because she could feel the effects of it. Second, the euthanasia/eugenics Progressives supported the forced sterilization and execution of mentally unfit persons, going back to the nineteenth century. It was only when the Holocaust exposed the end result of this policy that they eventually came to deny their enthusiasm for culling people from the gene pool.

As for your other point, it is true that the article cited did not say that the people involved were Progressives or leftists, however, the local newspaper had a bit more detail:

Mom, daughters charged with starving family member with Down syndrome to death

TAYLOR - For two years, Robert Gensiak's world was his bedroom.
It was there, his family kept him from doctors, even when his skin cracked and bled and open sores formed from being forced to stay in his child-sized bed covered in feces.
And it was there, the 32-year-old Taylor man with Down syndrome wasted away to 69 pounds because his mother and sisters were starving him to death.

On Wednesday, about three months after Mr. Gensiak died, police charged his mother, Susan Gensiak, 59, of 12 Williams St., and two sisters, Joan, 35, and Rebekah, 24, with murder.

Family members expressed concern that if they placed Mr. Gensiak in a personal care facility, the financial support they received from his Social Security benefits would dry up.

Before the end of the interview, investigators said Mr. Gensiak's mother asked if she would still receive her son's Social Security check even though he died.

June 20, 2013|By Joseph Kohut, Of The Scranton Times-Tribune
SCRANTON — — The Scranton Counseling Center made multiple calls to a woman accused of starving her mentally disabled son to death, but she never responded to offers of help, according to phone records obtained by prosecutors through a court order.
A relative said Susan Gensiak of Taylor, Lackawanna County, "didn't like her male children" and that her first son died unexpectedly when he was 29.

Robert Gensiak, who had Down syndrome, was 32 when he died March 20, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance to Regional Hospital of Scranton at the urging of his doctor, Paul Remick, who had not examined Gensiak for two years.

Gensiak's body temperature was 92 degrees, he was scourged by untreated scabies, lice and psoriasis, and weighed just 69 pounds, police said. Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland ruled the death a homicide due to neglect.

Susan Gensiak, 59, and her daughters, Joan, 35, and Rebekah, 24, were charged Wednesday with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and neglect of care for a dependent person. Joan Gensiak, whose 2-year-old daughter was placed with Children and Youth Services, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Unable to post bail, the three women are in Lackawanna County Prison.

Robert Gensiak was enrolled in the Allentown School District until sixth grade, when Susan Gensiak pulled him out to home-school him, according to Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Tierney.
Prosecutors say the motive for the neglect was Gensiak's Social Security disability checks, the family's main source of income.

The Scranton Counseling Center phone records are significant because they apparently contradict Susan Gensiak's claim that she wanted to get her son help, but couldn't because she didn't have a car or other transportation.

"As far as I know, [Scranton Counseling Center staff members] were trying to communicate with the mother, and she wasn't responding," Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Tierney said Thursday. "She wasn't calling them back."
The records document "numerous instances" of the center's calls offering help between 2009 and 2010 that were ignored, Tierney said.

Before moving to Taylor in April 2012, the family lived at multiple Scranton addresses, Tierney said. A witness told investigators the family was evicted from one of the homes because of filthy living conditions.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a relative said the abuse goes back to at least the mid-2000s, when she lost contact with the family.

Susan Gensiak doted on her daughters but did not love her sons, who were "not allowed to eat."

"She wanted girls. She didn't want boys," the relative said.

Joseph Gensiak Sr., who died in 2010, would sneak food to his boys, Robert and Joseph Jr., the relative said.

"I would sneak them food," she said. "Everyone would try and sneak them food."

Joseph Gensiak Jr. died on Oct. 24, 2005. He was 29.

So, the motives were a hatred of men and a desire to cheat Social Security. Not necessarily a political motive, but people who game the various federal welfare programs do tend to be Democrats, or at least vote to keep them in power. Given the voter registration in the county, the odds are 50/35/14 in favor of them being Democrats.

As of January 2010, there are 223,867 registered voters in Lehigh County:

Democratic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_(United_States)): 112,412 (50.21%)
Republican (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)): 76,904 (34.35%)
Other Parties: 34,551 (15.43%)
Can I say, for certain, that this was the work of Progressive Democrats? No, but the connection with their policies is a lot more clear than the far more tenuous connections that you've cited between American evangelicals and gay-bashing Muslims in Paris.
