(CNN) -- Bears rarely attack humans unless they feel threatened or territorial. But a 12-year-old girl jogging in Michigan is among the latest victims in a spate of bear attacks that has left seven people mauled in five states since Thursday.

Wildlife officials are running tests on a bear they killed to see if it's the same one that mauled Abby Wetherell on Thursday evening. The girl from Cadillac, Michigan, was out on her nightly jog when she was ambushed by a black bear.

"On her way back this time, a bear just kind of came out of nowhere and attacked her from behind, knocked her to the ground," her mother Elizabeth Wetherell told CNN affiliate WXMI (http://fox17online.com/2013/08/16/web-exclusive-mother-of-mich-bear-attack-victim-speaks-to-fox-17/#axzz2cNlLKraN).

Abby tried to get up, but the bear kept charging.

The reputation of the bear is being smeared because he is black, he was probably just out for a walk to get some skittles and watermelon tea.

There is also the distinct possibility that Global Warming has cooled everything off causing the bears to be chilled and that has left them irritable enough to gore people.

The third and most damning evidence of all is that this was caused by the sequester.

Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources, led by Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), released a new report Thursday outlining the effects sequestration will have on America's national parks.

The evidence is clear, this is racially motivated, exacerbated by global warming and further spurred on by Republicans in the house.
There is nothing we can do but stay home and worry.:blue:

People in the northern lower penninsula seem to think that there are no bears south of the Mackinac Bridge. There aren't any in metro Detroit (we have coyotes, though), but there have been bear sightings near Rockford, which is only a few miles north of Grand Rapids. Cadillac is one of those rapidly growing areas, but the bears probably stick around because the garbage is good eating for them.

Black bear are in a lot of states. When I worked in North Jersey I ran across black bear
many times when I was going for a walk at lunch time. Thankfully they were more interested in
people's garbage cans than me.

More like they sensed the Dark Side of the Force was stong in you and stayed away out of fear! :biggrin-new:

Also, let's remember that the images in the media of a cuddly Boo Boo are several years out of date. This is what MSNBC has presented:

And this is what he had on his Facebook page:

Also, Yogi's comments were not helpful:

People would be hugely wrong. There is a very health black bear population in the northern LP. It's still mostly forest up there, look at google maps sometime to see how much is state and federal forest. There is very little interaction between bears and society, they stick to themselves mostly.

The bear probably had a cub nearby when she attacked. It's weird as black bears usually aren't as aggressive.

When I was in British Columbia walking in bear country, I took a little bell, a bear bell that had been recommended by the bear keeper at the St Louis Zoo. Either there weren't any bears around or that bell really worked, as didn't see one bear. :biggrin-new:

So, you're saying that black bears have a different culture and keep to the hood? Sounds racist, man... :friendly_wink:
