Police say an unknown individual detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) near an embattled Oregon war memorial cross late Thursday night.

The cross, which a prominent atheist group wants removed from the public park in Coos Bay, Oregon, sustained minor damage during the explosion that police say occurred in the late hours of Thursday night or early Friday morning.

“Sometime late last night (August 22nd / 23rd) an unknown person(s) vandalized the memorial with an improvised explosive device,” said a statement released by the city government on Friday.

Bombs are a legitimate tool in the exercise of free speech for liberals today, just ask Obama's mentor Bill Ayers.

They're still trying to get rid of our cross out here. It's been going on for over 20 years. What's frustrating is how much continuous money and time is being invested in something that (sadly) few people notice or care about. The cross and the land on it were transferred out of public hands and into the private non-profit "The Mt. Soledad Memorial Association". The atheists are still fighting it.
