View Full Version : Maybe the Republicans are getting some balls

Got one of those emails from GOPUSA. Here's the brief message:

Hours after he called House Speaker John Boehner to say that he's REFUSING to negotiate, Barack Obama arrogantly strode to the microphone at a press conference and told the American people that he is, in fact, willing to negotiate...

BUT, he declared, that WILL ONLY HAPPEN AFTER the American people declare complete and unconditional surrender to his big-government agenda and his plans to implement ObamaCare in spite of the will of the American people.

And our answer isn't just no... it's HELL NO. It's time to let Barack Obama and our elected officials know that the American people are not Barack Obama's serfs and that surrender is not an option (http://www.gopusamedia.com/C/731/10027/1149409).

Sometimes you can get kicked just too many times by the Chicago thug bullies. It's time that the Republicans don't just roll over and play dead to that arrogant fearless leader.

I hope that they have the intestinal fortitude to hang in there and not cave to Obama. I heard tonight that "The One's" favorability rating is now down to 37%.

Years ago in sales 101 I learned to never flinch and to persevere. Now if only our elected officials can follow that path, we just might be alright.

The dems in their arrogance have been pushing things too far. Locking out WWII vets from the monument at the same time as the illegals were frolickin with Pelosi on the Mall just might have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Fox interviewed a vet last night about this matter, and he was so angry I thought he was going to have the big heart attack on the show. He was that angry at Obama.

It's time the Republicans and the Democrats stop measuring you know what sizes. Nobody in the center cares about their poor, pitiful feelings.

They're about to cut off Wic checks this month. I'm concerned for parents who need that for their baby's formula. I'm thinking a lot of you all don't care, but I think you should know just how disgusted I am for ANYBODY who is for this shutdown for any reason.

The idea that Republicans are victims because their feelings are hurt disgust me. Ditto with Dems. Grow up far left and right. Nobody cares about your poor feelings.

Republicans aren't victims because their feelings are hurt, they are being forced to accept dictatorial edicts from the White House, as are the rest of us. This is about more than WIC, it's about whether or not the Constitution is still the law of the land.

Sounds like feelings are hurt to me.

My concerns are that children have enough to eat (even if their parents shouldn't have had pre-marital sex years ago and even if they did accidently pick the wrong person to marry due to abuse. I forgive parents for being human), that children with cancer can get treatments (even those whose hope only relies on experimental drugs), that those with disabilities are taken care of, and that those who can work a job get job training if they need it.

I don't care about federal aid for family planning, museums, parks, or money to tie up the hands of individual states with our mandates. I care about taking care of those who need to be taken care of. I don't care about whose you know what is bigger, and I'm sorry, but that's ALL this ridiculous fight in Washington DC is about.

I still think this is ultimately about fulfilling the wet dream of dismantling the federal government. Problem is conservatives are supposedly for the military and this shut down cuts into the military. Oh, and I'm for the military staying open too. If we're going to fuss at crazy countries, we need to back it up. I'm also for freedom of religion. Did you know that military preachers and priests are being told to stay away or else get arrested? They can't even come as a volunteer. And NOOOOOO, I WON'T just blame Obama. This is your side's fault as much as anybody's else's.

Sheesh. I've tried to be nice, but this shut down did it for me.

Boner's gonna cave.

House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday proposed a short-term increase in the debt ceiling as a way to avoid what administration officials warn would be an economic catastrophe, putting the idea to President Obama ahead of a high-stakes White House meeting.
Boehner and his deputies announced the proposal after pitching it to rank-and-file Republicans in a closed meeting. The plan would allow for a six-week extension of the debt ceiling with no strings attached, as long as Obama and Democrats make a "real commitment" to negotiate over the partial government shutdown and a longer-term debt-ceiling hike.

Lanie, you misinterpreted completely what I said. It's not about whose feelings are hurt. It is about the direction of our country. For one I'm very tired of the way many will cite one group or the other in a attempt to get their way.

Listen to Harry Reid who replied to a questio about denying funds for kids with cancer--unfortunate but others in his district need assistance.

This is a game of hard ball, but think on the Dems side it is turning the country around to a more socialist way of thinking and about total control of our economy. Why in the world do you think Ms Pelosi was speaking at that rally of illegals? The Dems are salivating over all those votes-----and Obama is trying to annihilate the Republicans.

It's not about "feelings". It's way more than that.

Boner and the French Repukes have been 'kicking the can down the road' for 5 years now. Why would they do anything different?

'We the people' are simply not pissed enough to drop what we are doing to give these worthless shills an ear full. Yes, some of us do ... but quite obviously not anything approaching 'massive' numbers necessary to light a fire under them.

Ho-hum... life goes on for them ...

We hit the debt ceiling in about a weeks time. If we do absolutly nothing, but hold firm, we take full blame for taking the nation over the fiscal cliff.

Sorry, I just don't see it that way. Boner and his shills have been playing Barry's "you blink first" game since 2010. Boner's blinked first every time.

Extensions, delays, more time to do more of what these assholes do -- play golf and party. At the end of the six weeks -- assuming Barry "approves" Boner's latest limp-dick hard-on -- it's back to the same ol, same ol. Catastrophe, impending doom. Only minutes away from Moody's dropping the credit rating down to AA. And then, Barry gets his money and Boner winds up looking like the dufus he is.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The federal government shutdown could leave America's craft brewers with a serious hangover.

Stores will still offer plenty of suds. But the shutdown has closed an obscure agency that quietly approves new breweries, recipes and labels, which could create huge delays throughout the rapidly growing craft industry, whose customers expect a constant supply of inventive and seasonal beers.

Lets threaten the Beer supply and see how fast voters react.

Have you considered the possibility that perhaps the country *wants* to go into a different direction? I would consider the thinking on here to be the far right. I have a friend to the far left who feels that Democrats can do no wrong. But honestly, I don't think most of this country is onboard with the far left or right. Most of us want a government full of people who will work together. If I didn't work together with my co-workers (even when I disagreed with them), I'd be fired. Why are these people getting a pass and better yet, why do they get paid for it? Conservatives complain about welfare queens, these people are welfare queens. They're taking your money and doing no job. To me, that's the bigger issue. It's not about which ideology wins out.

Didn't see this earlier.

First of all, breast milk only works if one isn't dried up. You know I don't have a baby, so I'm not worried for myself.

WIC checks are due to not be given at the end of the month in my state if this continues, same for some others.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/10/government-shutdown-wic_n_4073146.html

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday it would stop issuing vouchers for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children because of the federal government shutdown.

The department said 80 percent of the state's WIC clients had already received their benefits and could redeem them at stores for the rest of the month. But Combs and her baby are among the 50,000 or so who hadn't picked up their vouchers yet. Combs missed the press release.

"I got no actual notification from anyone," the 21-year-old nursing student said in an interview. Combs has two cans of formula in the cupboard and had planned to pick up WIC vouchers for seven more cans next month. She said she and her husband, who works full time for a builder supply company, will eat more Ramen noodles or reach out to a private charity for help if the shutdown continues.

There goes your stereotypes. She's not lazy. She's a nursing student. She didn't choose not to be married. She has a husband. Last, she is going to miss out on the voucher now because she didn't hear about it in time. The video above this article says that food pantries are hit hard due to this.

http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/wic-vouchers-end-wednesday/nbJrC/

"They receive milk, juice, cheese and eggs and whole-grain cereals," said Dr. Wina Nevling, Iredell County WIC director.

Nevling said those are just some of the items that can be bought with food vouchers through the supplemental nutrition program known as WIC.

Nevling had to turn people away Wednesday because the government shutdown means no more federal funding for North Carolina.

"I feel terrible. It's not our problem and we want to serve our clients, and there's a void when this service is not provided," Nevling said.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services officials said that about 80 percent of those eligible have already been given benefits for this month. They will be OK for now as there's enough money to cover those vouchers. There's no money to issue more vouchers because of the federal government shutdown, according to the state.

So, people are now being turned down and at least twenty percent of people in this county did not receive benefits yet this month.

Stefanie Rayfield, 27, receives WIC to help pay for formula for a baby with severe acid reflux. The special formula costs $28 a can in a store. She gets WIC for a dozen cans a month. If she had to buy formula, that’s $336 a month.

That entire article was enough to make me want to say some really nasty stuff. The idea that feeding babies, but that giving congressmen who don't work a paycheck is makes me want to throw up.

You know what? A lot of rich people get it from where most of our politicians and some people here don't.

As a nod to its North Carolina base, Food Lion made a $500,000 donation to seven regional food banks across the state to support those who need food assistance to feed their families. The donation, consisting of gift cards, was targeted to food banks stretching from the west to the east in the state – and divided based on geography and number of counties in each region.

"I'm just glad Clara White Mission is a safety net. Our food pantry is almost bare," said Clara White Mission CEO Ju'Coby Pittman.

The shutdown has Clara White Mission Pittman bracing for a boost, which she said isn't a good thing. She fears furloughs will send more her way -- people like Barbara Goodman, a veteran, who never dreamed they'd need the help.

"It hits home," said Goodman as tears streamed down her face.

Despite the government shutdown, it's business as usual Monday at Synovus Bank on the Southside. The workers are getting ready to celebrate their 125th anniversary.

But Executive Vice President Scott Preston said woes in Washington left them with a heavy heart. He said they decided to forgo festivities and instead help furloughed families by donating to Clara White.

I'm sure there are others. This is bad.

Then maybe Stephanie should have waited until she was more financially secure before having a child.

There's no money to issue more vouchers because of the federal government shutdown, according to the state.

Far be it for a government to give something out with no money to back it up. This is liberal/leftist demagoguery at it's worst. All of a sudden these government are worried they don't have the money? Horse feathers.

Eat Ramon noodles or get the help from a private charity. IOW, Ramon noodles may not do the trick. BTW, Ramon noodles may keep one alive, but it's not healthy to live on. I do agree that some people may not have their priorities straight. I'd be for some reforms to better weed those people out, but not getting rid of the program all together.
