Hi everyone,

CU will be running a new Newsfeed ad from Newsmax starting today.

If you have your Sidebar turned on you will see it.

I have just installed the code from Newsmax and 2 out of our 4 Skins

have text color problems. I'm aware and have alerted Newsmax. We

will have it fixed ASAP.

It's just a blank, grey rectangle in pank on the iPad.

I don't have an iPad, but on my laptop it's perfectly visible on each of the skins, sized properly and easily read. SR is still working on the code and talked to Newsmax tech support this am.

OK, background color and text placement have been corrected and finalized on the main page sidebar.

You will also see the newsfeed/ad in the Forum post list screen at the bottom left.

That's it for now, those are the only newsfeeds/ads

Is there a way to get rid of the sidebar when you're trying to read a thread?

Not at present

Tell us how you really feel Marv! :biggrin-new:

Personally, it doesn't bother me, my only wish is that it had been one from "Breitbart" ... then I would never be able to get out of CU and tend to all that I should be doing back here in 'River City!' (Robert Preston in "Music Man" from years ago.)

Personally I like the new SideBar locations and options as

they allow us to pop around the board faster. And that's why I

brought them in, to make it easier to navigate CU. That Newsmax

is part of it is just a bonus, there may be others in the future.

I'm always looking at vBulletin Mods (which is what this is) to enhance the board.

From marv's response I'm not sure I'm missing anything but....
Using Chrome on the laptop, I'm not seeing it at all.

"If you have your Sidebar turned on..." suggests the sidebar can be turned on or off by the viewer.

How?

"If you have your Sidebar turned on..." suggests the sidebar can be turned on or off by the viewer. How? When the permanent installation was made to the color and the text size turning the side bar on and off was no longer an option, it had to be integrated into the forum software.

I'm experimenting with various combinations of this new

option and possible others so it'll be a changing ongoing

thing. Things may change and it's also a factor of the Skins

and what so can and can't do...

Can you increase the width of the display so that the sidebar is off to the right side like the Legal Insurrection (http://legalinsurrection.com) blog? Or could the sidebar be limited to the index page? Maybe an ad with a link could be used instead.

I don't object to a sidebar as long as it doesn't interfere with the rest of the display, and make the board annoying to read.

Marv, each board has their own software. We're trying to see how it works. We feel it's a better alternative than ads all over the board which slow down the speed of the board.

Marv you are using an old square CRT, software now is geared toward 16:9 aspect ratio, without a side bar it wasn't that big of a deal. Everything now is on a wide screen.

marv - have you tried the other color combos or a different browser? I've been playing with this all day trying to get it to show up so I know there are setups that will not show it.

Of cuz if you were to try Win 8 and the current Chrome, you might end up blowing the tubes out of that contraption of yours.

Starting today we have a new entry on the Sidebar

Good one, SR ...

Elspeth and Carol et al, should have plenty to post for us to comment on!

About Gatestone Institute

"Let us tenderly and kindly cherish, therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write."
— John Adams

Gatestone Institute, a non-partisan, not-for-profit international policy council and think tank is dedicated to educating the public about what the mainstream media fails to report in promoting:

Institutions of Democracy and the Rule of Law;
Human Rights
A free and strong economy
A military capable of ensuring peace at home and in the free world
Energy independence
Ensuring the public stay informed of threats to our individual liberty, sovereignty and free speech.

Just put the above in for folks who are busy at work, to get an idea of what you picked up!

Really good!

The pig noted your monitor so.. At any rate, on Win 8, a Lenovo laptop, using the pank color combo and the "standard?" presentation I only get the sidebar when looking at the index page. Once I go into a room, list 'new posts' or about anything else, it goes away.
You can drop me a line direct since you have the email and ask any other questions you deem pertinent.
Or just blast away ere.

The new sidebar looks good--good articles, good food for thought. It's best to have different POV's. Hope you enjoy. Plus between the two sidebars, a quick way to keep up on current events and the latest discussions.

Something else I like about the Gatestone sidebar, is the fact that ... John R. Bolton is the Chairman, of Gatestone Institute. Yes, that John Bolton.

I read a couple of the articles already and as is the norm, they state this at the bottom of the page:

The articles printed here do not necessarily reflect the views of the Editors or of Gatestone Institute.

... but this one I do like.

My 2 cents for what it's worth, anyway! ~ ABC

If necessary we can pass the hat and send Marv a new monitor, I would hate to have him quit posting here. He is a wonderful poster and would be dearly missed. He is already faced with the curse of only having dial up available where he lives.

I'm going to guess one of the foods is grits.

I'll go along with that. Anything other than roasted in the shell is a waste.
