Is Rush right?

Immigration — both illegal and visa-sanctioned — is weakening the United States, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh says.

"America's a great country, and it was strengthened by virtue of immigration, but you can't say that that is happening now," he argues on his radio show (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/05/28/illegal_immigration_weakens_america) Thursday.

Limbaugh charges two forces have contributed to an influx of immigrants in the last 50 years: a calculated push by the Democratic party that "reinvigorated illegal immigration," and visa programs that attract highly skilled workers.
"The Democrats … need a permanent underclass," Limbaugh charges. "They need a never-ending group of people… that will forever be proud, subservient dependents of the federal government. And hence here comes illegal immigration."

He says Democrats "reinvigorated illegal immigration because we didn't have any immigration – 1924 through '65 we stopped all immigration so the immigrants then could assimilate and actually become Americans."

The biggest reason "illegal" immigration hurts the US today is because we are a welfare state. All immigration is not a bad thing at all.

There are too many 1st generation immigrants here today who have made great contributions to American society to make such a blanket statement.

I agree that the Democrats are flooding the country with third world immigrants. First, to vote Democrat. Second to take all the crap jobs no one else wants, and third to keep the schools full, as the unions need those teacher dues. With all the abortion that goes on, we'd be closing schools right and left.

Even if I disagreed with Rush which I don't I would agree just to disagree with Melon Lube, I think most of us can agree on that.http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/thinking/smileys-thinking-029488.gif (http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/)

I feel that visa-sanctioned immigration is a good thing. I know modern day immigrants that have came to the United States and done great things. Some have moved here to expand business operations in the United States that have created jobs for Americans.

I'm opposed to illegal immigration and all the social benefits provided to the illegals.

I agree with Molon. Just think of all the immigrants that still come here to be doctors and do great things.

3 of my grandparents were immigrants, although 2 were immigrants from Canada. I don't know if that counts. They came her legally. My grandpa came through Ellis Island.

I support legal immigration. I also support, on a case-by-case basis, giving legal status to people whose parents brought them here as kids.

Until LBJ changed the rules we got a lot of professionals and ambitious entrepreneurs, now we get unskilled 3rd world laborers and much worse we get people with no intention to work or contribute to society. There are some valuable immigrants but they get fewer in number by the day. You need to go back and listen to Rush's comments in there entirety.
