The timebomb under Yellowstone: Experts warn of 90,000 immediate deaths and a 'nuclear winter' across the US if supervolcano erupts

It could release 1 ft layer of molten ash 1,000 miles from the National Park
It would be 1,000 times as powerful as the 1980 Mount St Helens eruption
A haze would drap over the United States, causing temperatures to drop
Experts say there is a 1 in 700,000 annual chance of a eruption at the site

A far greater danger than any imagined AGW. If not for the leakage going on for centuries it would already have exploded.

The land (which moving) sits on top of a "HotSpot" that doesn't move.
Every 600K years or so it goes KA-BOOM!!! It's overdo...

If it blows I just hope we're in FL and not MO!!!:DDsmilie_panic::biggrin-new:

Seismic tomography provides scientists with a much bigger picture of the volcanic ‘plumbing system’ under Yellowstone national park (http://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/apr/24/yellowstone-national-park-scientists-discover-huge-magma-chamber)

April 2015

Deep beneath Yellowstone national park, one of the world’s most dynamic volcanic systems, lies an enormous, previously unknown reservoir of hot, partly molten rock big enough to fill up the Grand Canyon 11 times, scientists say.

Researchers on Thursday said they used a technique called seismic tomography to a produce for the first time a complete picture of the volcanic “plumbing system” at Yellowstone, from Earth’s mantle up to the surface.

Yellowstone, which straddles the borders of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana (http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/montana), and boasts a remarkable array of geothermal features including geysers, mudpots, steam vents and hot springs, sits atop a super volcano that has had three calamitous eruptions.

Maybe it's what killed the dinosaurs.

Created a volcanic winter, killing off their vegetation and the sulfur poisoned their water.

It would do to us what Santorini did to the Minoans when it blew-current theory is that the Minoan civilization was "Atlantis".

I live in Missouri, just at the very edge of the explosion.

But don't worry, I'll come out of it okay

A Prepper has to be ready for ANYTHING and EVERYTHNG .

Dan, if that blows all the prepping in the world probably won't
help. It could also trigger the New Madrid fault...it probably would not be a good day...

That New Madrid fault could really be nasty. It has changed the course of the Mississippi River.

Yep, just the fault going could bring the country to a halt. Bridges
down, highways gone, lord knows how many dead and injured.

And the Dems would blame Bush.

Jim Bakker is predicting that if the US supports any division of Israel, God will cause an earthquake on the New Madrid fault line that will split the US in 2, and drain the Great Lakes into the Gulf. So, of course, you can donate money to his ministry, and they will send you powdered food to store for the 7 years of tribulation ahead. His ministry is stocking up so they can help the people who are devastaed and confused-his ministry is located in Branson. I think the scenario he described above would pretty much wipe out Branson.
