HamdenRice starts a thread to excuse the barking raving moonbat that posted the I just went OFF in a Starbucks thread. And the completely predictable excuse is that the person that ejbr went batsh!t on(unprovoked even by ejbr's account) was... you guessed it, a racist.

Man this sh!t is getting old.

FYI for our White Friends: Here's a form of discrimination you probably have no idea exists (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4335724)

I realize it's bad form to start a new thread in response to an existing thread, but I want to make a slightly broader point than is being raised in the existing thread. The existing thread is ejbr's thread "I just went OFF in a Starbucks":

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4331784&mesg_id=4331784)

The responses in that thread I think reveal the gulf between black and white experience -- no, not a gulf, a grand canyon of difference between our experiences and perceptions.

Like most people who responded to his post, I thought ejbr's reaction was insanely over the top -- until he mentioned down in post 94 that he is African American, and then it made perfect sense.

You see, in addition to not being followed around in stores and not experiencing other forms of day to day racial harassment, you probably have not experienced a particular kind of racial harassment that ejbr was reacting to, one that has been on a drastic increase since Obama became the nominee, since he became the likely winner of the election, and that will undoubtedly increase exponentially when he becomes president. Let's call it the "passive aggressive political commentary."

If you are African American and occasionally are in public places where conversation takes place -- especially places like cafes, bars and restaurants -- you become used to racists suddenly engaging in spirited discussion of social and political issues relating to race within earshot.

It goes something like this: You sit down to have a beer, and the guys at the next stool who were discussing the Yankees suddenly begin discussing "welfare" or OJ Simpson. Whereas the conversation about the Yankees was private, the conversation about welfare is suddenly loud enough for you to hear. In ejbr's case it was a conversation that switched from pick up lines to the problem of all of Obama's supporters being idiots. (Now what do you think is the likelihood that the person ejbr "overheard" knew that ejbr was an Obama supporter because of his skin color? And how would your assumption change if ejbr were a white man?)

Now, if you're white you probably think I (and ejbr) are being paranoid. But, of course, you haven't had the same experience, so you don't have the same perception. And that experience is the frequency with which "private" conversations between white people "just happen" to switch to welfare, African American crime rates, or now Obama (or more specifically the stupidity of all Obama supporters), in our presence and the peculiar way that the volume of those conversations increases in such a way that, what sounded from a certain distance like mumbling background noise when the conversation was about the Yankees becomes almost shouted disquisitions about race matters from the same distance.

But perhaps we are being paranoid. If so, my gosh, it's amazing how often white people discuss racial matters in bars and coffee shops, because we must just be listening in on a "random sample" of their conversational topics! How can we be having a racial divide in this country when white people seem to be discussing racial matters almost all the time?

On the other hand, if our perception is accurately shaped by experience then ejbr's explosion was justified, because, as I said, it's a form of "passive aggressive" behavior; it may be passive, but it's still aggression. Its basic point is: I can insult you by pretending to have a private conversation, and you can't insult me back. It may have seemed like a private conversation, but it wasn't.

And don't tell me to "do what Obama would do." We're not running for the presidency, and we don't have to pretend to like everyone, nor do we have to try to convert anyone to our cause. Our day to day "job" is to defend our own dignity and protect our sanity, which in part is accomplished by not bottling up our rage at when we encounter racists.

And oh yeah, anyone who does this kind of passive aggressive thing isn't going to vote for Obama anyway.

165 responses and 38 recommends so far.

BTW here's an idea for HamdenRice, ejbr, and all the other moonbats looking to be offended, try NOT eavesdropping on other folks' private conversations.

I suspect that Hamden is not completely off base here about the existence of this phenomenon. That doesn't make ejbr any less of a bark raving moonbat though.

So when numnutz head explodes and he's white it's bad.
When numnutz head explodes and he's black it's OK.
Just wanted to make sure. Who are the racists again?

I also reread the post from yesterday and found this:
I could have taken the high road and asking him not to talk politics as it is a touchy subject for me Who the hell are you that people can't talk about something in your presence? Insanity.

I really have to stop reading posts like this, I'm so full of rage now my head might explode. The idiotic crap spewing forth from these moron's mouths....DUmmies have no idea what racism is or how far we've come to get past it in this country. I'm overseas with 200 other men and women, we all work as together as one and we have members of every color and nationality you can think of, an experience I'm sure this close-minded chump has never experienced in his dimb-bulb bubble.

Off to do some pullups and blow off steam. Freakin' DUmmies..

I have gone to the DUmp once and it's just infested with hatred and pure stupidity. The garbage there can really get underneathe your skin. Just remember that you can't rationalize the irrational and be thankful you don't see the world through their eyes.

Personal responsibility and accountability are absent in the liberal mindset. It is always someone elses' fault and it's usually the so-called racism of white people. It's disgusting and unfair.

This jack@$$ at Stabucks was totally in the wrong and he's a coward for using race as an excuse. He should have minded his own business. If he didn't like the conversation, he should have relocated to another spot.

i get hamdenrice. i do.

a buddy of mine was bat shit crazy too. he thought everyone in the world was following him, out to get him. he saw it every day and believed it. it was like cia agents on his part, not racists, but it is the same story...

i walk through life not paying all that much attention to the people around me. they are there, but so what?

try this for a day (like my bat shit crazy friend or hamdenrice)...

look into the eyes of everyone you encounter in life. some walk in the same direction you do. some have odd facial expressions. some look at you "funny".

now create in your mind why all of these events might be happening.

those walking in the same direction as you? following you.

odd facial expressions? its not because of gas from that bad lunch they ate. its about you.

looking at you "funny?" again, it not that they might look at everyone that way... its about you.

if you want everyone in america to be racist you can find "directions" and "looks" and "funny" shit around every corner. go look yourself. stare at it 24/7. you can delude yourself into anything.

any of these delusions will get you a "hell yes" on du and some du cred.

all you have to do is post...

Hey, DUmmie. It had nothing to do with skin color. If you or ebjr were white you'd just find something else to be a victim of - that's why you're DUmmies.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be a male panther trapped in a human woman's body?

And the fact that virtually 99.99999999999% of blacks in the US will vote for Hussien, simply because he appears to be black, is not racist?

Heck, watch the Stern interviews, they LOVED McCains policies when they thought they were the policies of black man.

What is discriminatory is the fact that white people are suppose to tiptoe around what they say in the presence of a black person, but black people get a free pass to say whatever they want.

I've also wondered why so many blacks make a conscious effort to NOT fit into society. They want their own music, their own clothes, even their own language. Many seem to think they are not "Americans", they're "blacks".

That's because America has always held them down, giving them a free check and public housing. Nothing says "held down" like a free ride.

Obama the politician or Obama the angry black community organizer?

And these blacks hate people like Bill Cosby and Larry Elder who tell them to get off their lazy asses and be responsible.

I know. It's like, I feel like I'm the only one who really didn't care for 'Chappelle's Show' when it was on, because I grew really angry at how openly racist Dave Chappelle was towards white people on the show. White women were all portrayed as brainless sluts whose only goal in life was to have sex with a black man, and white men were portrayed in an even worse light: They were all depicted as ridiculous dorks, losers and wusses (Often played by Chappelle himself wearing whiteface) for the audience to laugh at. However, he'd always get a free pass for all his hate- mongering on the show, with some even calling it "Insightful" and "Hard- hitting." The show's defenders claim that he made fun of black people, too, but to refute that, I'd just bring up the 'Blue Collar Comedy Show.' That show, from what little I've seen of it, made fun of white people a lot, but you know that if there was a sketch with Jeff Foxworthy or Larry the Cable Guy wearing blackface and portraying black people as insultingly as 'Chappelle's Show' portrayed white people, it would be cancelled in a heartbeat and none of the people involved in it would ever get work on television again.
That, my friends, is called hypocrisy.

Where are all these bars, restaurants, and random lines where white people just spontaneously whip out their kluxer outfits and start discussing race when a non-white person shows up? If anything, we seem to consciously avoid any race-related topics in public, from what I've seen.

Disliking Obama is not evidence of racism.

Thanks for the kindness friend. Yes, I believe they don't like us for reasons like this as well. A group of individuals able to transend race, religion, class and work together as a cohesive, strong unit? They can't have that! :p

This is actually my experience. I work on a college campus and my boss can say that she "wants more color" in our office and can hire an unqualified woman based on color alone (which she did, and the employee is so incredibly bad: everyone has to do her work for her.) But I can't even say I am voting for McCain without having her come down on me like a ton of bricks. She thinks that everyone voting for McCain is a racist, period. (Everyone in the office is voting for Obama except for me, so I have generally kept mum about it.)
