Switzerland overwhelmingly votes for burqa ban with 6,500 fine for Muslim women who rebel
February 4, 2016. 2016/News /No Comments
Muslim women can no longer wear the full-body garment in shops, restaurants or public buildings and anyone caught flouting the ban could be struck with a 6,500 fine.
The ban comes in the wake of heightened terrorist alerts across Europe.

Similar laws have since been passed in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Europe is waking up from it's slumber....
Time to break up the European Union and re-introduce a sense of nationalism. They may be too late.

Mohammed retakes top spot in English baby names

The government declared that Harry was the most popular boy's name, but if you add up the five most popular different spellings of Mohammed, that name comes top.

Mohammed is also the most popular boy's name of the past five years for England and Wales, ahead of Oliver and Jack. It came first or second every year since 2007, the only name to do so.

I bet Mohammed stays on top, especially now with the new surge in immigrants.

I'm not sure why people think that banning freedom of religion stops radicals from becoming terrorists.

It has nothing to do with that, they can hide their Identity and hide bombs in public.

Lanie, it's a safety precaution. Jihadists hide themselves in burquas and disquise themselves as the women they hate. They did so in Afghanistan during the war to escape. The Swiss are finally catching on.

Jihadists are drag queens. I never thought of that. Sort of like banning masks at Mardi Gras because of thugs. Okay.

Truth.

I have mixed feelings about banning burkas. I don't like them because of what they represent regarding women's status, but I also don't like the idea of the government banning them. I'd prefer it if Muslim women chose not to wear them in the US. Most don't in the US, most stick to the hijab. There is a variety of modest clothing options for women who want to stay traditional in that sense without wearing a burka.

But: no one should be allowed to drive when wearing them. There's no way they can see well enough to be safe behind the wheel. Additionally, identification is just that-identification. You have to remove all your head coverings for an id photo, including the hijab (but excluding wigs and toupees).

Women who wear those garbage bags are probably also forbidden to drive by their macho husbands.
