WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer," Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility."

Dunham helped raise Obama from the age of 10 while his mother was working in Indonesia, and Obama took an emotional 22-hour trip to Hawaii to visit her on October 23 and 24.

I feel for him. I really do. It's hard to lose a grandparent. If he didn't do all he could have for her, it'll eat him up.

He took a few days off in the final strech of a presidential election to with here. IIRC he was accused of going there to fix the whole birth certificate thing and granny wasn't sick at all...

Welp - at least the poor woman is at rest now and he no longer has to worry about her racism anymore.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and may the perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

So Blinky can look for vicious liberal style attacks on the dead, or use our lack of response as proof we are heartless, unfeeling monsters. Personally, I feel very sorry for the man. Losing a family member sucks, regardless of one's politics.

I know you're joking, but they'll stop just short of saying that. These pigs know tomorrow is going to be a bloodbath for the Republicans and their desperation is seeping through.

Look at how they are reacting now, they're all on edge.

Just that he is a self absorbed asshole who cares more about himself then for being there for the final moments of the woman who "Raised" him.

Apologize for acting EXACTLY like you and every other DUmp monkey would act if this was one of McCain's relatives?

I'm saddened to hear of her passing, but I still questioning the timing exactly as you would if the shoe were on the other foot. Spare me your faux outrage, you little shit.

You're all boring me with your faux sympathy and/or outrage. The old lady was backin' McCain so Godbama first broke her hips to shut her up and then when that didn't work, he smothered her with a pillow. End of story.

If she was ill before this, it was at the thought of her traitorous grandson gettin' a shot at puttin'' his feet up the big desk.

When my grandmother died, I was 24, when my Mom died I was 54. I could not tell any difference.
My grandma had a big part in raising me too.
I am raising my grandkids.
Rising above politics is a virtue. It should never consume one's empathy or sympathy.
I would hope we are better than that.

What's surprising is there was no mention of cancer, but a broken hip. I'm sure that's why many people were skeptical.

I'm glad for Obama that he was able to see her before her death. May she rest in peace.

Matthew 7: 5..you and Lids.

Matthew 5:43-48

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

I am embarrassed that you call yourself a Christian.

I feel bad for her, she was practically disowned before her death by the grandson she raised and saw grow into a candidate for the most powerful position in the world. Even when she was lying on her deathbed, he made political points out of the situation.

Maybe it was more the MSM than him, but either way the entire situation looked more like a political stunt than a man actually caring for the woman who raised him.

Prayers for her safe trip, even if she was a "typical white person."

Thanks lp. I mean you can love or hate the man all you want, it's still really hard to lose a loved one no matter who it is. You wanna beat someone, you beat them in the voting booth and one the issues, you don't badmouth or attack their familiy and you certainly don't make light of the death of someone close.
