I stay away from Free Republic. I'm strong conservative, but I understand the world hasn't stopped turning. We were headed toward socialism either way. I'm starting to figure Socialism is like a cold shower, I don't like it but it might be less torture to just jump in instead of easing in.

Nobody stole the election, landslides ain't stolen. See the thread on the point where democracy fails if you want to know how I feel bout Election'08.

According to Mr. Limbaugh presently - the ability to vote prior to Nov. 4th is the cause of this loss. I donít know what heís bitching about - heís got choice fodder for the next 50 months.

If anyone, Limbaugh would be one to take the (un)Fairness Doctrine to the courts as a violation of the 1st Ammendment of the Constitution if it limits his ability to do his job or forces him off the air.

I know for all that worked on the McCain Campaign, you deserve much credit. You worked hard for what you believed in.
I know what it feels like to NOT agree with the agenda of the new political commander in chief.
I would like to say this. Change to accomodate the 21st century comes hard for many.
We have many fence mending to do and much right here in the US. When I came here to CU, you thought
I was the most liberal person on DU. I wasn't. I am pro life. I am for our military. I am for the
death penalty if we know for sure that peson did it.
The left will feel abandoned because Barack Obama will govern from the middle. He knows he needed
the Eisenhowers, the Goldwaters, the moderates who helped put him into office, alliance. He won't govern from the extreme left. I happen to believe there are less abortions when we fund education to teach
about choice. I don't think the extreme right wing evangelicals or left evangelicals belong in dictating
legislation. I liked Ronad Reagan. I liked Goldwater. Even when I did not agree with them.
I came over here and you all have found out I am not the Boogie man. Obama wants the country to come
together some where in the middle. Civility has to return.
For those who are very disappointed in the election, this place will become a sounding and venting board
for you. We should again forget all the rhetoric as best we can and see if we can just all come together as
one nation. No blue states, or red states, and dissent is part of patriotism.
I read about the 1st Congressional Congress and by todays standards some would consider them elite and
radical. Change about race relations and everything about politics is just the way the independents
and moderates think. Radical thinking from the left or right is just misguided.
We must continue to try and take care of our pride in ourselves and our country.
We should not be so blind as to not adhere to pointing out when something is wrong.
God Bless You and God Bless America. By the way, I would have congratulated a win if Sen. McCain won.
I am a pro life moderate but I am a realist and know we have to start taking care of America as a whole.
I like Sam Nunn. I think you should ll find some comfort in people like Nunn, Powell Hagel,
The Eisenhowers and Goldwaters and many other republicans standing for the new President elect.
He is not the Devil. He is the New President of the United States and we shall see.
He won't be perfect. He will make mistakes. He is not the Messiah. He is a man with ideas, mos of which many on here
do not agree wth. Change is hard. Change about how we feel about one another. Change about idealog.
Women were not allowed to vote. Now they are. That was hard. Blacks were beaten down..Intergration was hard.
Going to war was hard. Coming out of a war is hard. The change is about how we treat one another. That is the real change.

Vetwife, you take that pile of steaming BS to DU and post it.

You'll be TS'd within an hour. The rank hypocrisy and sanctimonious calls to "come together for the good of the nation for hope and change" is the most sickening thing I have heard.

I will pay attention to it the day DU, HuffPo and Kos get down on their knees and apologise to President Bush for the vile treatment he has received over the last eight years.

AND NOT ONE MOMENT BEFORE.

I will believe it the day that DU hands ove the names and addresses of those who threatened the life of the President.

Blacks were beaten downBY DEMOCRATS. Finish that sentence.

Eight long years of misery and pain and screeching, spittle flecked maniacal hatred and you expect me to just flick it away and shrug it off???

Not in this lifetime....you unbelievable hypocrite

The left will feel abandoned because Barack Obama will govern from the middle. He knows he needed the Eisenhowers, the Goldwaters, the moderates who helped put him into office, alliance. He won't govern from the extreme left.

You wouldn't care to bet on that, would you?

Pick three or four benchmarks, say defense spending, the economy and immigration.

With defense, look at specific programs like missile defense, the Iraq War, force structure and procurement of new systems. If Obama governs from the center, these will remain pretty much as they are, or with minor fluctuations based on actual missions. If he governs from the left, as I believe he will, we will see cuts in all of these areas, if not outright elimination of some programs based solely on ideology. If he goes for Barney Frank's proposed 25% defense cut, then he's governing so far left that he won't even be able to see the center.

On the economy, he has promised tax hikes on anyone making over $250,000 (or $200,000 or $150,000 or $120,000, depending on which way the wind is blowing) and redistribution of the additional revenues to those who currently pay no taxes. If that plan goes through as promised, he's governing from the left, and every incremental drop in amount that you need to make to qualify for a tax hike indicates a shift to the left, rather than the right. Also look at his energy policies. If he maintains the offshore drilling ban and keeps his promise to "bankrupt" the coal industry and continues the moratorium on new nuclear plants, then he's governing from the left. Needless to say, increased energy taxes are a leftist response to energy issues.

Immigration is a no-brainer. A blanket amnesty and truncated path to citizenship with no regard as to the allegiances of those12-million new citizens, but that creates millions of new voters is a complete assault on the sovereignty and political and territorial integrity of the United States, not to mention a really vicious way to ensure Democratic majorities for the foreseeable future. That's not governing so much as imposing one-party rule.

Obama is between a rock and a hard place. He's the most liberal senator, yet tried to disguise himself as a centrist. If he goes too far right, the libs he's deeply in debt to will scream and pressure him to live up to his promises to them.

If he goes to his natural left way of thinking, those who foolishly believed his centrist ploy will realize their mistake in voting for him.

I hope for the sake of the country he finds a way out of this situation. It's like a liar who lies so many times that the liar forgets which story he told. I'm not calling him a liar, just giving an analogy.

Wow. I did post at DU. Sonnabend, ever think of working at the State Dept?
This is what you call an unhinged rant, Shannon?
I called DU on their stuff remember? Or were you even here then?
I got about 39 threads of hate mail but I quit over there and it is not hypocracy.
And you well know it. I have never, ever said anything contrary to what I am saying now,
Have I? If you can't get along with a person because of their politics, then you must live in a
small world. Not a bit different than some of the posters at DU. Now that is hypocracy.
I do understand your anger though. For eight years I never claimed Bush as my president and
he was referred to as Monkeyboy or worse.

I choose not to post at DU. I actually like some folks over here. I like some over there, as well. There are some I don't but not because of their
politics, but because of their personal attacks in both places. It is all about people who can't tell the difference in political diversity and attacking a person
for not lockstepping. I still remember how you gave Gator Hell for his Ron Paul stand.
CW called some of you out on this as well. Looking in the mirror is not pretty sometimes is it?
Don't like the president or policy. You will get use to it. You will never like it, but you will get used to it.

Thanks SLW for debating with civility.

About half and half. Both parties are taking us in that same direction. Have you ever tried easing into a cold swimming pool, it's torturous. Fuck it, just jump in. I'm really getting to that point. I will never embrace socialism, but if that's where we're heading, quit trying to sneak it in and just do it already.
