Cloudy here in the Insurance Capital of the World (TM) with a projected high of only 58F. This follows a rainy Saturday as it appears our New England autumn may be rapidly going the way of the world. Girlfriend's got a driving class this morning as she still hasn't passed the test for her US/CT license and, as of Oct 1, applicants are required to take an 8 hour class on the evils and dangers of alcohol and drugs and their attendant effects upon the driver. The irony that she would have to take such a class is a bit delicious!

A few weeks ago, we looked at "Bond, James Bond," a topic which, either due to the looming release of the new Quantum of Solace or to the various graphics entailed therein, generated a good deal of interest. So this week, let's look at the other fictional spies who have appeared in various movies. They too had their share of attractive companions from the 60s...

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee88/scdiver27/SlayGirls.jpg

thru the 90s..

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee88/scdiver27/lizhurleypowers.jpg

So, that of course, leads us to the relatively non-controversial...

TOTD: Excluding James Bond, who's your favorite fictional spy? From the lonely wee hours of the morning, lying awake in your 30 year fixed bed, thru those moments by the mythical water cooler, to your moments of wistful introspection on refrigerators, life, and all the fish, when considering the important things in life, which master of derring-do do you think of most?

Due to the constraints of the format, I've only listed nine, but feel free to suggest others as so many have, of necessity, been omitted from the wonderful Peter Lorre as Mr. Moto...

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee88/scdiver27/mrmoto.jpg

to even cartoon spies with their own beautiful companions...

ZOWIE!!!

Gotta be Our Man Flint in In Like Flint.

A suave James Coburn fighting against an International Feminist Conspiracy to take over the world, run from the Virgin Islands.

What's better than that?

Coburn is so cool:

And the Feminist Conspiracy looked really dangerous (check out the hair dryers):

Flint's my man.

Welcome Back, CW!

Post-birthday bash and the rugrats are stirring after no doubt staying up to the wee-hours playing, um, Wii and watching Blockbuster movies...

TOTD: My pick was Other and I'm giving a nod to the literary spy that stoked the creative fires for me, as a writer, back when the 'scribe was a very young scribe-in-training and not so dark, yet.

To many of you maybe this literary hero isn't a spy in the truest sense of the word, but he is to me. As Bolan (and his creator, Don Pendleton) would say: Live Large!

I had to go with Len Deighton's Harry Palmer, particularly as played by the understated Michael Caine. Harry always seemed to regard spying as simply a day job that had the benefit of sleeping with various attractive women...

I thought so. The covers always rocked. Like 007, Bolan always had a lady-friend to help him! ;) Actually, the first book-cover featured was the first MB novel I'd ever read. The 2nd one was when the series re-emerged in the early 80's as Bolan took on international terrorism.

And he had help, too...

you know a secure man, a manly man can watch Beaches and Steel Magnolias and cry along with the best of them.
you know, I think I'll go wake up the one in my bed and tell him "honey, instead of the Vikings/Packers game today, lets watch Dirty Dancing".... while you rub my ass rash lotion on for me...

okay, I see that I need to have miz bubba come out here to the west for a week or two, stay with me so she can at least see what real men look like! Nah, why stir up the disappointment..I am sure she is resigned to a nice guy like you who understands the correct usage of throw pillows, track lighting and accent pieces in the living room. :p

Hellfire. No one even bothered to look up Lydia Barington Barrah? Or agent 355? I've been waiting all week for another Conservative to wander across this thread.

Starting your search here is always fun. https://www.cia.gov/kids-page/index.html

And Blackford Oakes is the Conservatives spy.
