WASHINGTON (AP) Michelle Obama visited at least two well-known private schools in Washington on Monday as she and President-elect Obama prepare to move their two young daughters to the White House in January.

<snip>

Michelle Obama flew from Chicago to Washington and back separately from her husband, who did not visit the schools. It was not clear whether the Obamas will look at other schools, and their staff provided no details.

<snip>

The Obamas' children, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha, now attend a private school in Chicago.

A big shout out to all you public School Teachers out there. Security at a DC public school shouldn't be a problem since the kids are already required to pass through metal detectors.

I thought they already decided on Georgetown Day School. I'm not sure if that was the school but I do know it was $29,000 a year for each kid to attend.

but, but, but, but...isn't Obama going to waive his magic wand and make all the schools better??? LOL!

On a serious note, I don't blame any family for chosing private schools instead of public schools, especially in DC.

She's looked at Georgetown Day and at Sidwell Friends, both good schools. National Cathedral would be good, too. I can understand why the Secret Service would prefer private schools over public ones.

Some how they managed to keep up with the Bush twins and Chelsea through their college years so you think they could keep up with a couple of elementary school children.

So can I. Jimmy Carter sent Amy to public school, but that was a very long time ago and things were different then, as far as security issues go.
