COOS BAY, Ore.- The shelves at the Coos Bay Bi-Mart looked pretty bare Monday, with the main ammo for hunting practically sold out.

And Bi-Mart's not the only retailer in town seeing this trend: it's happening across the board.

Employee Dan West says it's not that more people are going out to purchase ammo, it's the same people who already buy ammunition purchasing more than usual. He says people have been buying $200- $600 worth at a time. West says the only thing left is guns, with nothing to fill them.

He says customers have been telling him they are afraid new presidential elect Barack Obama will super tax guns and ammunition.

So if you have plans to go hunting this weekend, West advises not to wait until the last minute to purchase ammo.

I've been buying 2 boxes of .40
2 of 9mm
2 boxes of 12 ga. shells

every payday for the last two months. My wife thinks Im crazy and thinks she's going to see me on the news one day when she is at work holding off the SWAT team. I said it's for the impending Civil War. :D

My wife insisted that I get HER a case of .357.
She carries .357, I carry .40 S&W. So we got cases of each.

They are going nuts out here buying guns and ammo. It's a four hour wait for your background check.

Finding 5.56 or 7.62x39 is getting to be kind of a challenge.

I'll put this here, amongst the other threads on similar topics. First, a disclaimer. I don't own any guns and never have. I've been mugged once on the street (in London) and I've lived in much more dangerous places than most people on this board. OTOH, if you want to own a bunch of guns to play Road Warrior, or whatever video game you imagine yourself in, that's perfectly fine with me. I support your right to do so.

However, does anyone -- anyone -- here really think that your private stash of guns (forget your internet penises for the moment) will protect you against an organization with the size and the capabilities of the US government (an implication that is repeatedly made here) should they decide to kill you, your family, your pets, and your illigetimate children? If you do, then you are living in the movieland of "Red Dawn" (really need to see that movie). If the government wants you dead, you're dead, despite Kiefer, despite Patrick, despite Sylvester.

Have your guns. Play as if you're a nomadic hunter who must hunt for food rather than taking one of your 2 SUVs down to the Publix. Shoot hapless animals and skeets. Protect yourself against crime. All good stuff. But don't think you're a wolverine. Remember Georgi Markov.
