(Harrisburg) -- Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor has lost her battle with cancer. Catherine Baker Knoll died at 6 p.m. today at National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was 78.
Governor Rendell says Knoll was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Knoll was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in July. She had undergone radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Knoll was sworn in on January 21, 2003, as Pennsylvania's 30th lieutenant governor -- and the first woman to be elected to the post.
