Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore accused Republicans on Sunday of contributing to poisoning the people of Flint, Michigan and Democrats of neglecting Blacks after they are elected to office.

While speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Moore commented on how his home state of Michigan went to Donald Trump and how he says politics have played a role in the Flint water crisis.

“I mean, where I come from, I live in Michigan, so we’re used to both parties,” Moore said. “The Republican Party, which controls the state house and the governor in Michigan has contributed to poisoning the people of Flint and still hasn’t fixed the problem. So, we’re used to the treatment of that party.”

Moore then turned his attention to the Democratic Party.

He blamed their treatment of minorities for neglecting places like Flint

He's right about the Flint poisoning, no matter how hard our governor tries to skate out of it, the buck stops with him. The same emergency manager laws he used to force Detroit into bankruptcy and which I will admit saved Detroit were not used to the same effect in Flint. In Detroit, he appointed a brilliant businessman to be the emergency manager (Kevin Orr). In Flint, he appointed a series of losers to run the program, ultimately resulting in the guy who chose to use the corrosive Flint River water that led to the breakdown of the pipes.

There are other people who were involved in the mess, but because of the emergency manager situation, the accountability lies with the one who appointed the emergency managers. Only one person did that, the governor, who happens to be a republican.

He's also right about the Democrats using black voters in election year and ignoring them the rest of the time.

Glad things are looking up for Detroit and thank you for the insight into the Flint mess.

At the time that the Flint water system was contaminated by lead (not to mention the Legionaire's disease that killed some people there), the city council and mayor were democrats, but were not in charge of the city. The republican Governor, Rick Snyder, appointed an emergency manager because the city was either in or close to bankruptcy. The emergency manager had full control of the city's finances and answered to one person-the Governor.

Like I pointed out previously, Detroit was in the same situation, but the Governor appointed a really good emergency manager in that case. Detroit also had one really big asset to bring to the bankruptcy-the water system used by the city and most of the suburbs. Letting the suburbs buy into it and share control gave the city a lot of cash to pay off their debts. Detroit's water system is pretty good, Flint was using it prior to switching to the Flint River (there was a new system being built for the Thumb region that Flint was going to buy into, but the system wasn't up and ready to go when the contract with Detroit expired). Rather than renew the contract with Detroit, the emergency manager, who was appointed by the Republican Governor and only answered to said governor, chose to use the corrosive water from the Flint River. Within a couple of months of the switch, GM notified the state that they were taking their plants off of the Flint water system because the water was breaking down the auto parts they were manufacturing.
