On June 14th, James T. Hodgkinson opened fire on a group of Republicans practicing for a charity baseball game. He hit 5 people including Republican Rep. Steve Scalise who is still in the hospital from his wounds. Hodgkinson was a rapid Bernie Sanders supporter and even volunteered for the socialistís presidential campaign. In addition to hating Donald Trump and everyone in the GOP, he had a hit list of Republicans he wanted to kill. Somehow out of all of this, The Washington Post is trying to make Hodgkinson seem like a right-wing radical.

Letís file this under fake news with an extreme sense of prejudice. The WaPo did a feature on a conservative radio host Bob Romanik from Belleville, IL. Itís a pretty unflattering piece, accusing Romanik of being extreme and hateful. No surprise that the WaPo has a problem with a conservative, but they took this hit piece into a most unexpected direction.

It turns out that Romanik is from the same town as Scalise shooter Hodgkinson and the Wapo thinks the leftist would-be-assassin was inspired by right-wing rhetoric:

The suburban community about 20 miles east of St. Louis drew attention in recent weeks because it was the hometown of James T. Hodgkinson, the out-of-work politically frustrated home inspector who up and left, drove a van to the Washington area, and then shot four people at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria.

The nation was shocked, but Romanik ó who seems to delight in launching savage attacks on local politicians and stoking his listenersí many frustrations about race, crime and government ó certainly wasnít. Despite being a die-hard supporter of President Trump who has perfected the art of the dire populist message, many of Romanikís biggest fans in southern Illinois are disgruntled Democrats like Hodgkinson

I call it massive confusion on the part of a broken political party who only a few months ago were all betting on the breakup of the Republican Party. It's a wonder any of these people can find their way home when they go out.
