View Full Version : Alien-like squid with "elbows"

From National Geographics. A mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) underwater, a remote control submersible's camera has captured an eerie surprise: an alien-like, long-armed, and—strangest of all—"elbowed" Magnapinna squid.

Scientists speculate that the animals feed by dragging their arms along the seafloorand grabbing prey--or perhaps the squid passively wait for prey to get stuck on one of the sticky appendages (which, as you'll see in the video below, are HUGE).

Spiders and snakes will never measure up to squids and octopusses in terms of being creepy/disgusting.

Squids, octopi and jellyfish give me the willies, so you'll understand if I don't click that link.

Magnapinna, very nice. When I was a lad, I thought about going into Ichthyology, but the course work always made me hungry.

I like this lively fellow. He looks like he might be a demon at Whist.
