New York Police Department Commissioner James P. O’Neill drew thundering applause at the funeral of slain NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia when he asked where were the public demonstrations in protest of killing police.

Commissioner O’Neill asked, “Where are the demonstrations for this single mom who cared for her elderly mother and her own three children?”

Commissioner O’Neill’s comments were followed by thundering applause from the 25,000 police officers from 85 police agencies that attended the funeral, according to the New York Daily News.

Commissioner O’Neill had to pause for the applause to end before continuing.

“There is anger and sorrow. But why is there no outrage?” O’Neill asked. “Because Miosotis was wearing a uniform? Because it was her job? I simply do not accept that. Miosotis was targeted, ambushed and assassinated. She wasn’t even given a chance to defend herself. That should matter to every single person who can hear my voice in New York city and beyond.”
