North Korea test-fired its second intercontinental ballistic missile in less than a month late Friday, with experts concluding that the launch flew higher and longer than the first and now puts a large chunk of the United States — including Chicago and Los Angeles — within range of Pyongyang’s ever-improving weapons systems.

Japan’s Defense Ministry said that the missile, launched at 11:42 p.m. Friday from Mupyong-ni in northern Jagang Province, around 60 kilometers (37 miles) from North Korea’s border with China, reached an estimated height of more than 3,500 km and traveled about 1,000 km, landing inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, some 150 km northwest of Okushiri Island, a tiny islet about 18 km off the coast of Hokkaido.

The rare nighttime launch was fired on a very high or “lofted” trajectory, which limited the distance it traveled.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told an emergency news conference in the early hours of Saturday morning that the missile flew for about 45 minutes, a flight that would put it about five minutes longer than the test of its earlier ICBM, known as the Hwasong-14, on July 4.

In a statement, the Pentagon assessed that the missile was an ICBM — “as had been expected” — adding that the U.S. commitment to its allies Japan and South Korea remains “ironclad.”

Next test...maybe a Rail Gun "Accidentally" hits the ICBM. :smile-new:

I guess the powers that be are waiting until the North Koreans get fully capable of hitting any part of the US before getting to the point of physical intervention. They could at least change Reagan's executive order and assassinate his ass, they only have to use heat imaging for anyone with any body mass

China claims to have no control over them, what they are saying is go ahead and blow the Doughboy up, we don't care.
Like SR said, time to play with the rail gun.

" Missile-tests are scary and you don't have to prove any progress is taking-place. "

I'm sure that's what our military think-tanks are going with, when it comes to analyzing NK's approach to media-headlines.

Like the 'mobile-launcher' ploy... " Oh-oh. They fired a new Hwasong-14 from a mobile-launcher. "

It was likely an old Hwasong-12 with a paint-job, which could always be fired from a mobile-launcher.
