View Full Version : Bush: lift ban on off shore drilling

WASHINGTON — President Bush called on Congress Wednesday to open U.S. coastal waters to oil and gas development by lifting a 27-year-old ban on drilling off the American coastline, and allowing states to decide whether to permit production off their shores.

Blaming Democrats for stalling, Bush said, "Congress must face a hard reality. Unless members are willing to accept gas prices at a today's levels, or even higher," the country "must produce more oil, and we must start now."

the democraps say:
WASHINGTON — Eleven senators called on the Bush administration Tuesday to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization against eight members of the OPEC cartel, saying they are violating trade rules by colluding to hold down global oil supplies.

The senators, 10 Democrats and one independent, maintained "the very existence of OPEC" violates the GATT trade agreement that prohibits nations from setting quotas or imposing other restrictions on exports.

so the dems wanna go after OPEC. ha can you say boomerang ????? they would rather risk even higher prices to protect the lil' fish's and coral reefs. right.

The liberals and the Env. wackos have placed themselves in a box and they do not know how to get out. Bashing the top oil Exec. did not work because the voters sided with the oil companies rather than the partisan Demo craps. Their next trick is to go after OPEC. If these fools get their way, OPEC will say screw you. We will cut production. Then what. Exxon has reduced their exploration budget by 30% in the US ; what CEO in their right mind would want to invest in this country when the loonies on the hill are anti-oil, anti-business and want to take their profits.

The way the winds are blowing for change, I would say that the voters want more exploration. Also, this might turn out to be a bigger issue than the housing mess. The Democratic Congress has the ball and they are dropping it. Their only answer is to tax the shit out of it which will only make the price of gas goes up instead of down. The good folks of CA had the good sense to defeat a proposition that was anti-oil and pro tax.

No. I remember now! Gas wasn't a political problem back in 2000, and now it is....and damn if it isn't an election year. Nevermind that Bushy has been hard at work fighting the GWOT and forgot that the conservative principle of self sufficiency would help reduce U.S. reliance on Middle eastern oil and thus the need for a friggin' military presence in the region.

That's not what I am saying. King George, Bubba, daddy Bush, Nixon, Carter, LBJ, JFK have all screwed the pooch as far as a sane energy policy is concerned. Is that enough for you? The peanut farmer stated that "we will never be dependent on foreign oil." What has happened since. After the oil embargo passed and the price dropped like a rock. Congress said, happy days are here again, and we don't need alternative energy nor do we need to bail out those wildcatters that went belly up. This mindset in Congress has festered up until the last several years. Now our politicians are looking for quick fixes. There are none. Deal with it; gasoline prices are going to keep going up; I am booking it.

Offshore drilling on the east and west coast is only part of the puzzle if we ever want to be dependent on our own oil supply. The nut jobs on the east and west coast will never allow that. Just like they will not allow nuke plants and new refineries. Tough shit CA. I hope your gas goes up to $10 per gallon. States like LA, TX and MS are carrying more than their fair share of the load.

10+ years a ago Clinton would not drill in anwar, since it would be, um, 10 years before that helped. That was so smart, so lets stick to it! Even better, no anwar AND no off shore drilling.

Ten years from now, I wonder if the democrats will be crowing about how they stopped the U.S. from drilling more to increase supplies.

Another case of me agreeing with you 100% under the scope of this particular reply to Logan's particular post. Someone call Guinness.

Irwin was a very brave man, a scientist by more than education....the kind of education biologists dream about. "Crocodile Hunter" did more to reinforce my conservation stances than any other influence in my hunting and fishing career.

Most of this board doesn't know it, but I have a given a home to two very large Columbian Boas because one of my friends had to deploy for an extended period of time. I would have never had the confidence if it hadn't been for Irwin's show.

My entire family watches animal planet, our kids included. Our kids were really, really sad when we had to explain to them what happened to Steve. They still watch Mindy when she's on before their bedtime.

In short and to sum up; Steve Irwin was a family man, a conservationist, and the ideal we 'gun-toting redneck deer hunter killers' strive for. He taught us hunters our responsible place within the animal kingdom in a method that was both entertaining and informative. Yes Irwin was an inspiration and teacher to every hunter, environmentalist, and outdoorsmen in the U.S. and he did it all from a continent away. I wish like hell he was still alive. There weren't many men who could bring that sort of excitement, family entertainment and learning to my living room screen without the need for PG17 ratings.

Yeah Logan, don't fuck with his memory. He was much bigger than Australia, and a hell of a lot bigger than a freak stingray accident. Let's not reduce the man's memory to that. He was worth so much more to so many people. His memory deserves more than a joke. His memory deserves a medal.
