On ir's way to $10000. I can't believe it.

I don't see a volume figure/graph. Is this a rush to a "safe haven"?

Just looked...$10,000.08!!!

A tempting investment-risk... but I don't know what a 'Bitcoin-bubble' looks like. This may be one. I'd like to throw 10-grand at it, then sit back... but I'm not getting any hunch-making insight right now.

It stayed above 10K overnight! 10,252.86 to be exact.

One would think a correction is imminent but
with Bitcoin you never know...

Here's the thing. Everyone is now watching this as it continues to jump. People are getting on-board now as they all want in on the party wagon and hope to make some money from it.

But what is the reality of it?

Reality is this is more speculation driven, not actual growth driven. Which means that when the profit takers start selling, it will plummet like a rock and those who don't sell right away will stand to lose the most.

6 hrs ago:

Bitcoin (Exchange:BTC=) rocketed higher Thursday, crossing the $16,000 mark in less than two days after topping $12,000 for the first time. In trading on the Coinbase exchange, the digital currency rose above $16,900 and was last at $16,748. The price on Coinbase is often at a premium over other exchanges. Coinbase is one of the major cryptocurrency exchanges accounting for a third of bitcoin trading volume. Bitcoin 1-hour chart Source: Coinbase Bitcoin now has a market value of more than $272 billion, meaning it would rank among the 20 largest stocks in the S&P 500 (^GSPC). The latest swing higher came as bitcoin topped $12,000 Tuesday night in a rapid recovery from a 20 percent drop last week. The digital currency began the year below $1,000 and its gains have accelerated as investor interest grows. Chicago-based Cboe Global Markets (CBOE) is planning to launch bitcoin futures on Sunday, while the world's largest futures exchange, CME (CME), is set to launch its futures product the following week. The addition of bitcoin futures by two respected exchanges marks another step towards establishing the digital currency as a legitimate asset class.

Oh there will be a correction at some point and it could drop 5K or more.
That's when you buy. I'm not buying any more of it now, I will be using the high
value to purchase other coins that are the up and comers at a discount.

And don't forget, Bitcoin Futures start trading on Wall Street
real soon.

LOL!!!

No, not selling. The reason is not one of being
greedy but of necessity.

On all the Crypto Exchanges, Bitcoin is the Gold Standard
and can be used to buy any of the other Cryptos. The Exchange
I bought it on will have cleared my $$$ transfer in another
day.

After that I can move my Bitcoin to other Exchanges that
have the coins I want.

Honestly, I don't think the price is anywhere near the top
at this point. It could go bust tonight but doubt it.

Thanks for the input though, it is sound but this ride is
far from over...

It would be more nerve wracking if he had a whole bitcoin. The good thing is you can buy "pieces" of a bitcoin. But I'm a conservative and steer away from anything speculative. SR checks things out carefully, but has a bit of that old Mississippi riverboat gambler streak. What can you say? I'm an AT&T type person for the dividends. I'd sell, but this is his project. I don't want that floating finger of blame if I say sell and it skyrockets.

When I was in high school I advised my dad to purchase Microsoft as it was going public. It was kind of a last minute thing, my dad did contact his broker and decided not to. The broker gave my dad some sketchy info so my dad decided to wait a couple days and see what happened.

My dad regretted that until he died and told my mom "the next time Robbie suggests a stock I'm going to buy it."

Still easily in the black, just not as much. This is the correction
that people have been waiting for. From many things I read
on a regular basis I'd say people are loading up on Bitcoin at
these lower values.

The Cryptos I've bought are for the long haul so I don't
fret on them day to day. If they all went to 0 tomorrow
I wouldn't be out much at all.

Interesting view of the expense of mining bitcoins if you can access it. It may be restricted.

Oh, well - it opens and then immediately closes. Key information is that in many location it costs more to mine one than it's worth even today.

SR - Phillip Nunn has a post on this at LinkedIn.

Last night Bitcoin was over 9700 per coin and looked
to be on course for 10,000 again.

But then it started dropping as did all the other
crypto's. Ugh!!! I was wondering, WTH happened?? Was
it sudden profit taking?? Aliens??? What??!!

Then I hear today what had a hand in it...

Bitcoin, Other Cryptocurrencies Slide After Wallet Provider Hacked

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies tumbled on Wednesday, apparently due to a data breach at the cryptocurrency wallet provider MyEtherWallet.com.

Bitcoin slid 6% to $9,075.62, according to CoinDesk. Ethereum crashed 10%. Bitcoin Cash dropped 6.5%.
MyEtherWallet, in a tweet on Tuesday, said that Google DNS servers were hijacked so that users were redirected to a phishing site that looked like that of the wallet provider. An analyst said the plunge in prices Wednesday was likely due to the hack, according to a Business Insider story.

Prices look to be rebounding some.

Technology and ideas.

Ripple/XRP for instance lets banks move money arond
at much faster speed and lower cost per transaction.

Ripple is the tech and XRP is the coin. You need both
to do the work. As Ripple is more widely accepted by
banks the demand for the coin goes up as should the
value/price.

And a lot of these new crypto coins are just scams.

John Pfeffer, a partner at his London-based family office Pfeffer Capital, is not only betting on Bitcoin, but giving it a bold price target of $700,000—about 75 times the current Bitcoin price of nearly $9,500.

While Pfeffer did not put a time frame on his prediction, his target exceeds even optimistic forecasts from other influential investors such as venture capitalist Tim Draper, who earlier this month predicted the Bitcoin price would reach $250,000 by 2022.
