Earlier this week, Lavar Ball, the father of one of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) students who was recently detained in China for shoplifting suggested that if he were white, he would be treated differently. While talking about his claim, ESPN’s Stephen Smith said that while he disagreed with him in this particular case, he does hold the racist belief that, in general, a person’s skin color plays a role in how they’re treated by the public.

Specifically, during the most recent episodes of “First Take,” Smith was asked if he agreed with Ball’s claim that he, as a black man with a vision, is being vilified to a degree by others for being a threat to the status quo. After briefly answering that he doesn’t agree with Ball in this particular case, he added, quite racistly, that he does agree with his claim generally.

“If you’re talking in general about black folk, and how we’re perceived, absolutely so,” stated Smith. “When you are a black person with incredible potential, folks are more interested in controlling you than exploiting your talents and your gifts. If you’re white, they’re more interested in exploiting it and maximizing it to the nth degree,” he explained, seemingly oblivious to the fact that he was essentially making a racist generalization about people.

“It is something that any successful black person will co-sign. America and its history, in corporate America and beyond, has absolutely, positively proven that point,” continued Smith, noting, “so, when LaVar Ball says that from a generic perspective, he’s absolutely correct.”

He's also an idiot claiming, when the Lakers played against the GS Warriors earlier in the season, that his son, a rookie, was better than the 2 time league MVP Stephan Curry.

If daddy big ball doesn't want his son perceived differently because of his skin color, tell him that stealing is a big deal and nor what respectable people do.
