Sanctuary policy blamed for murder of MS-13 member released from jail

An alleged member of the ruthless MS-13 gang was murdered two days after being released from jail in Maryland, although U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had issued a federal detainer for the man.

In October, illegal alien Jose Herrera, 18, was arrested by the Montgomery County Police and charged with fourth-degree burglary and trespassing after he was found squatting in a vacant home with others suspected of being members of MS-13.

According to WJLA TV, the Maryland Transit Administration had purchased the property to make way for the Purple Line light rail project.

Demolition of the house had not yet occurred, allowing the gang to utilize the vacated building for a graffiti-filled hideout which featured a built-in bar and a shrine to the “Saint of Death.”

Herrera, a native of Honduras, entered the United States illegally and was given a criminal summons for the October charges. However, he failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Dec. 12, he again was arrested but released on Dec. 22 after posting a $100 bond. According to ICE, Herrera was released despite a detainer the agency claims it issued in October.
