Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria combines with devastating Western wildfires and other natural catastrophes to make 2017 the most expensive year on record for disasters in the United States, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported Monday.

The disasters caused $306 billion in total damage last year, with 16 events that caused more than $1 billion in damage each. The bulk of the damage, at $265 billion, came from hurricanes.

I am getting so tired of all the broken records that have nothing at all to do with the claimed cause for the jump in whatever is being measured. As for the above:
As long as the population of the US is growing, people continue to build homes and vacation playgrounds on sinking coasts and in river valleys, on steep mountain slopes and in the deserts, these catastrophes will continue to happen. Add in inflation, whether fast or slow, and the expense will grow. Shock and surprise!!
