Thousands and thousands of people -- men, women, children -- are killed every year in America due to people drinking and driving, yet liberals never demand that alcohol be severely restricted here. Why? Because lots of liberal enjoy alcohol. If they were consistent, they'd demand the same sorts of restrictions on alcohol that they do on guns.

Because liberals don't really care about the victims of gun crimes, they just hate the NRA.

Drunk driving laws have tightened up over the past 30-40 years or so, along with the drinking age being raised back up to 21. I think people in general think that at least something was done about it. In the 70s, my dad drove drunk on a daily basis, never got pulled over or caught. The BAC level that is considered impaired has been lowered, too.

Face it-this is a horrible thing that happens way too often in our country. Whether it's school shootings or just mass shootings in general, it's really bad. People feel helpless, and when they feel helpless, they want something done about it. Whatever side of the gun debate you are on, this is the way it is and this is what the leaders of our country need to address if they want to stay in office.

noonwitch, lots of laws have been improved in the last few decades -- drinking and driving laws as well as gun laws, both in acquiring guns and punishing lawbreakers who use guns. Drinking and driving laws are still ignored by many, and several thousand people die every year due to drunk drivers -- upwards of nearly the same number who are killed by guns for any reason (crimes, suicide, police, etc.). Around where I live, some old fart just got arrested for DWI for the 28th time!

Anyway, my whole point was to portray the left's attacks against guns and law-abiding gun owners at times like this in a different light. Why not go after alcohol and law-abiding alcohol consumers after all the drunk driving deaths?

Because the intended purpose of manufacturing and using alcohol is not to kill large numbers of people. The intended purpose of manufacturing and using assault rifles is to kill large numbers of people.

Except of course that the term assault rifle is meaningless, the manufacturing of any rifle sold in the US is either for hunting or target shooting and bombs have killed more children in the US and the world than any number of firearms.

Next question?
