Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel ducks reporters' questions
President-elect Barack Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, refused to take questions from reporters this morning about whether he was the Obama “advisor” named in the criminal complaint against Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
The complaint states Blagojevich wanted a promise of a high-level appointment or some other reward for Blagojevich in exchange for Blagojevich naming Obama’s friend Valerie Jarrett to replace him in the U.S. Senate.Emanuel was uncharacteristically absent from Obama’s news conference this morning. He was spotted two hours later in the lobby of Chicago’s City Hall. He was there to listen to his two children performing in a concert with their school, Anshe Emet.
A Sun-Times reporter pressed him to comment about whether he was the emissary named in the criminal complaint.
“You’re wasting your time,” Emanuel said. “I’m not going to say a word to you. I’m going to do this with my children. Dont do that. I’m a father. I have two kids. I’m not going to do it.”
Asked, “Can’t you do both?” Emanuel replied, “I’m not as capable as you. I’m going to be a father. I’m allowed to be a father,” and he pushed the reporter’s digital recorder away.
Blagojevch was caught on tape saying that he wanted the Obama advisor in question to know what Blagojevich wanted in exchange for the Jarrett appointment.
Blagojevich said, “He asks me for the fifth CD thing, I want it to be in his head.” Emanuel represents the 5th Congressional District in Illinois.
No one in the Obama campaign or administration has been charged with any wrongdoing. Obama said this morning that none of his staff has had a hand in any dealmaking on his Senate replacement.

Looks like Rahm Emanuel may be in deep shit. This may get very entertaining cause the good Governor is going to spill the beans on everyone to save his own ass. We need Eyelids closed to explain all these crooked politicians in Chicago.

This may be even more entertaining than the Clinton administration. Scandals are already hitting the fan and the Messiah isn't even in office yet!

They are going to need a hydralic suspension on that bus to raise it a bit cause it is going to get very crowded under there. More crowded than it already is. Someone in the Obama Adminstration is going to have to fall on their sword on this one. Back when I was dealing, everyone that had their game and distribution networks always knew that someone in your net was a threat if they got busted. Even if you have people that are loyal, some are always going to be more loyal than others. Everyone had the one guy that you did not want to get busted because you KNEW he would try to take others down to save himself. Looking over the names, Rahm Emanuel strikes me as that guy. In fact, I believe that if it gets too hot, Emanuel will not even wait for the Feds to come with a warrant. He will got to them before the ball is even rolling his way. What does one gain with their loyalty to Obama? One look under the bus and it becomes clear that the loyalty run in only one direction for Obama.

I don't blame him for that comment. He's at an event for his kids.

Sorry. That doesn't cut it. He's a major public figure now. Even more so that this is involving him as a possibility.
THEY created the phony Office of the President Elect...which is getting more play in the media than the Oval
They created their own media monster.

And he'd better be careful...

He needs to get his temper in check. This could have been considered assault. Not saying that it was forceful enough but recording devices in the media's hands are considered extensions of their bodies.
Rahm is no longer a private individual when out and about...he took the job. Welcome to real scrutiny now.

There thousands of guys in prison who had families. Who were fathers and it did make a fuck to authorities. But now it should be different because Emanuel works for the Messiah? That is the one excuse that pisses me the fuck off above all others when people bring up illegals. Oh how can we be so heartless as to bust up a family? Fuck that! No one gave a fuck about busting my family when I was accused of a crime. Why should Emanuel's family matter? Why should Obama's? Only a coward tries to hide behind his family.

I have no problem with the guy refusing to do a press interview at his children's show. The fact that people are jumping on his statement about why he didn't answer right then and there is silly. It doesn't give him a pass for ever answering, just putting some boundaries as to when he will answer sleuthing reporters. He may now be a public figure, but the press doesn't own him at all ours of his day.
Speedy, I have a feeling that your crime wasn't so newsworthy as to have reporters following you to your daughter's Christmas concert to ask you about, though I'm sure it was that important in your own mind.

Karma is a bitch. Politicians use the media for their own gain and then cry wolf when the tables are turned. Reporters going to his daughters Christmas concert for an interview is over the top. However, these guys make their living digging up dirt on people. The reporters smell blood and they are after his ass. I would bet the farm that Emanuel is part of the crooked political machine in Chicago.

Rahm is COS for Obama. He's 24-7 now. In the big leagues. If he wants to dodge questions, he only looks guiltier.
There's this...

Now..where was it held..?? Not at the school...AT CITY HALL!!!!!! Public place...media accessible.
If they were actually at his kids school....that's where the reporters would have been wrong.

Hey, I don't blame the reporters for trying. But I also don't blame Emmanuel for refusing at that time. It's a dance they all play. I just don't think his response is the heart of this story.

Speaking as a lay person, the heart of this story is what the media wants to make it out to be especially if he keeps dodging questions, hiring an attorney, etc, etc.

That is contradictory. There is a story here. The issue will be whether the media wants to continue to protect Obama and his associates, or if they want to get at the truth. Their version of the truth may be to throw a few more under the bus to protect Obama. Or perhaps they will actually do their jobs and dig as deeply as they did into Palin and her clothing-gate.

That's pretty much how I see it. He's with his kids, he doesn't want to do an interview right now.
If he's working with the feds, he can't really talk about anything regarding the case, anyways. It sounds like at the very least, he's a witness to Blago's corruption. I'm not saying he is, but if he is, he can't talk to the press about it at all.

I agree with his response as there is an appropriate time and place for everything. Regarding his silence though I prefer referring to him rather as "co-conspirator" instead "witness"
