If you were told a politician was proposing a tax on tap water, which party would you think this person belongs to? Somehow I doubt anyone said “Republican.” This has democrat written all over it with a big blue Sharpie. A democrat in NJ wants to impose a tax on tap water usage, because it’s a thing people need and already pay for, so why not stick it to them?

Here’s Fox 5 with the leading candidate for Democrat of the Year:

Never short on ideas for things to tax, lawmakers in New Jersey are considering a tax on tap water.

The proposal is being floated by State Sen. Bob Smith D-Middlesex, who is trying to say it’s not actually a tax but a ‘user fee’.

“It is a user fee based on volume,” said Smith.

A user fee on tap water based on volume? Isn’t that called a water bill?

It would add 10 cents for every 1,000 gallons of water a home uses. Smith says that will only add $32 a year to the “average” water bill.

That’s not an assload of money for most people, but putting it together with all the other stupid taxes and fees we all pay and it becomes ridiculous. Basically these democrats think that if they keep nickel and diming us that we won’t notice. We do and those of us who care show that at the ballot box by never voting for a democrat.

Making this even more of a democrat thing, New Jersey already taxes tap water:

The state already charges a public utility franchise tax on water system operators of $0.01 per 1,000 gallons of water delivered to a consumer. That tax, which went into effect in 1984, is supposed to “ensure clean drinking water in New Jersey.”

An IQ testing tax for political candidates would be fine :lemo:

what are the proceeds from the water tax going to pay for, or is it just going to the "general fund" for wasteful spending?

When are they going to propose a tax on the air we breathe?

That's literally the same as a tax on gravity.
