Warm and cloudy on the Mountain. Cold coming in tomorrow.
I was on Amazon yesterday looking at albums, and yes, I still call them albums, and noticed that there was a Christmas album by Fernando Ortega at two different prices. One price was about $10.00 and the other was about $16.00. I checked and the $10.00 'album' was the price for the download. No CD. No CD cover. Just the music downloaded to your computer.
While the music is the thing, I came of age in The Time of Vinyl. Now in The Time of Vinyl you went to the record store, flipped through the discs, checked the album cover art, checked the list of songs, and made your selection.
Now, in The Time of Vinyl the music was still the same, but it came so neatly packaged. Album cover art was truly that, an art. There were some great album covers. One of the things that made album cover art so memorable was the size of the canvas, if you will. A vinyl album cover is large enough for an artist to compose a true piece of art, and for the viewer to appreciate the detail and the work.
Alas, such is not the case with CD's. There are some cool CD covers, but it just ain't the same.
Here's a classic cover from Pink Floyd:

There are many great covers, even in the CD era. Share some of your favorites.
