CA Gov. Jerry Brown Vetoed 2016 Wildfire Management Bill While CA Burned

...Last year, as California residents were burned out of their towns, homes, neighborhoods, schols, hospitals and businesses, Gov. Jerry Brown was jetting around the world spouting climate change propaganda, and calling the fires California’s “new normal.” Gov. Brown had many chances to sincerely and realistically address California’s increasing wildfires since his election in 2011, but instead chose to play politics, placing his new friends at the United Nations over the people of California.

What many do not know, is that California Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bipartisan wildfire management bill in 2016, despite unanimous passage by the Legislature, 75-0 in the Assembly and 39-0 in the Senate. SB 1463 would have given local governments more say in fire-prevention efforts through the Public Utilities Commission proceeding making maps of fire hazard areas around utility lines. In a gross display of politics, this is especially pertinent given that Cal Fire and the state’s media are now blaming the largest utility in the state for the latest wildfires.

While hindsight is always 20-20, California was on fire when this bill made its way through the Legislature and on to Jerry Brown’s desk.

The 129 million dead trees throughout California’s state and national forests are now serving as matchsticks and kindling.

With California on fire once again in the North and the South parts of the state, Gov. Jerry Brown continues his bizarre claims that devastating fires are the “new normal” and a result of climate change. Only Brown updated his phrase: “’This is not the new normal,’ he said, employing a phrase that state leaders have used to describe the past two deadly, prolonged California fire seasons,” the Sacramento Bee reported. “’This is the new abnormal, and this new abnormal will continue certainly in the next 10 to 15 years.’”

Yet, the same climate change impacts private lands as public lands, but private forests are not burning down because they are properly managed...

President Trump made a tweet the other day pointing this out but he got hammered for doing so while the fires were burning. The truth hurts, especially for California's democrat party governor who has made the state more vulnerable to wildfires.

Thanks, Elspeth, for posting this. The media is making Trump seem crass for apparently pointing out the truth. The problem is with tweets is the brevity of the comments. Someone needs to explain this in detail so Brown is exposed. California needs to manage their forests more logically.

If the Republicans had the brains to counter those dishonest health care scare Dem ads used throughout the campaign, perhaps there would be different results. When the local dems here used the same crap that they were doing nationally, "you're going to die, the evil Rethugs are taking away your health care and you'll never get anything if you have pre-existing conditions", I wanted to scream. Why didn't the Republicans take out a national ad explaining that they were going to replace Obamacare with something better, McCain gave it the thumbs down, but reelect more Republicans so they could pass something better.

The Republicans have to take an aggressive response to these accusations and start fighting back. Republicans are lousy when it comes to messaging. Grant the SM and MSM platforms are bias to conservative content, but Republicans must break through to change these young minds if mush.[emoji106]

President Trump's error in his tweet was his timing. He should have given praise and support for the firefighters and compassion and concern for those who suffered because of the fires. After the fires are extinguished would be the time to bring the failure of governor brown to properly manage the forests in his state.

You know, I understand that from a "feelings" standpoint, you may be correct, but teachable moments pass when you're busy patting firefighters on the back, and then the news cycle is on to the next thing. I agree with Trump speaking up now. Remember, last year, we had this same spate of wildfires around the same time of year. (There was one here in northern San Diego country that closed down schools and businesses in the area around the 15 and the 78 freeways.) Everyone was patting the firefighters on the back and we didn't have a chance to ask why because "Russia!" took over the headlines again.

So GO TRUMP! Tell them WHY this crap keeps happening.
