The music that you listen to when you are coming of age frequently has a significance that stays with you for and influences your musical taste for all the years of your life.
So, for the Jukebox theme this Saturday, how about coming up with some songs that mean something to you becaus eof the time of your life. Turning 16. Graduation. Going to work. Falling in love. Being away from home for whatever reason (I think especially of servicemembers when I think about that one.) or whatever was going on in life when the music just really hit home.
I remember this song and album from when I was in high school.
Uncle Alice. School's Out..

This is a kinda neat site. If you put in your date of birth (month and day) it will give you a list of years with the Billboard #1 Single on that date.

"Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu)" by Domenico Modugno was mine. I can't fully express how much that blows. Maybe you'll have better luck. :D
Here's the Gypsy Kings version. The song was originally in Italian. When the GK's did it, the chorus is in Italian and the verses are in Spanish.

I know, do the site in the link I posted above and come up with the song that was number one on the day you were born. That will make you feel better. :)

I loved this song when I was in high school. The one and only Billy Preston.

Turning 16 and graduation were pretty much simultaneous events. The theme song (on the radio, and in life for some at my prep school) was "Truckin' " by the Grateful Dead. :D
"Lately it occurs to me, what a long, strange trip it's been."

I had a little portable AM radio I would listen to on the bus and at school. The local station was WDEC in Americus. The played a mix of music, rock and soul and older rock'n' roll. I think that station and its choice of music led me to my eclectic musical tastes today.

Grand Funk Railroad. In the tenth grade on a science test, the question was to give an example of the quality of sound. I answered Grand Funk Railroad. The teacher was not amused. :D

Back in college, my mother did the same thing on a history quiz. The question was, "Who said, 'Don't Give Up the Ship?' " Mother answered, "Dick Powell", because he had just sung a song by the same name in the movie, "In the Navy". :D

Lobo. Me and You and a Dog named Boo...
Thanks, Bubba. I do like that song and had not thought of it in a while. Took a motorcycle road trip once and took along a German Shepherd Pup in a backpack. I would stick him in there with his head sticking out the top. We had a great time. I'll never forget it. That pup was a great dog. He died when I was in prison.
Here is what was playing when I tagged my first virgin. It was on playing 8-Track when I was with a blonde haired, big boobed girl named Shelly. In the backseat of a 1971 Chevelle SS. Can't do that in the backseat of too many cars anymore.

I don't have youtube capabilities to post vids here (damn work computer firewall!) but I remember jamming the following in high school:
Eminem: The Slim Shady LP (rebel for our generation, especially white kids who rap from out in the sticks:p)
System of a Down: Toxicity (this album was playing at pretty much every kegger I hosted....god what a disc)
Tool: Anema (by far, best band I've ever seen Live)
