Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has been busy testing the waters since Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., announced earlier this month that he won’t seek reelection in 2010.
According to Politico, sources indicate the President’s brother hasn’t yet made a final decision, but Republican Party leaders are giving him a thumbs-up.
"Everything indicates that he's in," said David Johnson, a Republican strategist and the CEO of Strategic Vision. "You're not making calls and laying the ground work for fundraising unless you're clearing the field for your candidacy."
But Jeb Bush might face some formidable competition from Gov. Charlie Crist, who is also among those eyeing the empty Senate seat. So is Republican Bill McCollum, the Florida attorney general and former congressman.

I thought Governor Crist would have his eye on the 2012 presidential race. That's usually the next step after governor.

Jeb should join his brother and dad in retirement. I voted 4 times for a Bush as Prez. I won't make that mistake a 5th time if he happens to be the nominee for Prez in the future.

This isn't for President. Jeb is running for the Senate seat and would certainly be an improvement over Martinez. Besides, Jeb would likely be better than his brother anyway.
Still, I sure hope we get better choices next time.

Unfortunately, "better people" have no desire to get involved in a circus like politics today.

Agreed, he would be an improvement over Martinez. If he wins the Senate seat, the next step will be the Presidency. Like many others here, I am tired of voting for damn RINO's and IF he does run for Prez, he will not get my vote.

President Bush wants his brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, to run for the U.S. Senate, he told CNN Tuesday.
Mr. Bush, in an interview with Candy Crowley, said his younger brother should seek the seat now held by Sen. Mel Martinez, a Republican who is retiring instead of seeking re-election in 2010.
"I haven’t talked to my dad about whether or not he wants Jeb to run," Mr. Bush told CNN. "First of all, knowing my dad, I bet he would say, 'I want Jeb to do that which is best for him,' and then he would go on to say, 'but if he chose to run, he would be a great United States senator,' and he would be."
Mr. Bush said he was not sure whether his brother would run.

I'd be surprised if he won.
He won't get many crossover votes because of his brother and people who think he interfered too much in the Terri Schiavo mess .
He also upset a lot members of the God Squad who think he didn't do enough for Terri Schiavo.
Personally, I would vote for him. I thought he was a good Gov.
