FDR, April 11th 1945. He died the next day.
FDR was quite handsome as a young man. Shame about Eleanor, though. :(
The Obamas, today.....
The Obamas tomorrow.....
Some speculate now that he might've had cancer, which would account for the dramatic weight loss (Look at his suit--it's baggy on him; He must've looked like a skeleton) and the rapid decline in health. I read that back in the 1940s and '50s, if a person had cancer, their doctor usually didn't tell them because in that period, cancer was an automatic death sentence with no hope, no matter how early it was caught. They'd treat it, but they wouldn't depress their patient by telling them they had an uncurable ailment which meant they were going to die no matter what. Also, I've read FDR had a strange relationship with his doctor--He didn't ask what his conditions were, and his doctor didn't tell him; FDR simply took his treatments. His daughter had a bit to do with this--She was in denial about her father's health, I think.
Today someone--even Presidents--can be in their 60s and look damn good. Consider GW Bush and Clinton. They're both in their 60s and yet look well and are full of vitality despite 8 years of stress.
