That's how it works with most charities, except maybe if you give stuff away to your church or some less formal organization. I gave a bunch of my fat clothes to the YWCA's career closet and got a receipt to file with my taxes.

I'm still trying to understand what point the OP was trying to make. Why would he care if they claimed the donation on their taxes? Aren't lefties all for the charity deduction since they obviously use it too? Why would the OP think that run-of-the-mill Republicans are for small government? Even if these Republicans were for smaller government, how does a charity complying with the law actually enlarge government? Isn't keeping a small portion of your money away from the IRS a way of striking a tiny blow for freedom since you aren't feeding the pig as much?
Pretty funny if you travel to the thread. AFter the first 8 or 9 responses spurring the OP on, he gets called out on virtually every other reponse after...
I think they were trying to somehow...in twisted DUmmy "logic" call the people ahead of them hypocrites for being against big government yet willing to take tax deductions.
I'm not sure how the two connect exactly but that's what the DUmmy was trying to say...that tax write offs by Republicans = hypocrisy since we're against welfare...big government etc...
*shrugs*

4. They also hate socialism, but love their social security checks.
WTF?
This was probably the dumbest remark made there.
