Dog helps drop drug arrests at North Port High
NORTH PORT - Drug arrests at North Port High School dropped by 70 percent last year, a decrease not seen anywhere else in the district.
Police in North Port credit the addition of Duke, an 86-pound drug-sniffing Labrador retriever, with deterring drugs at the county's second-largest high school.
"They know he's there," said Police Chief Kevin Vespia. "They know he's going to be snooping in the lockers. That's the message: We don't want you bringing drugs into the school."
