the last bomb
today the 2nd and last Abomb is dropped on the city of Nagasaki. Early in the morning of August 9, 1945, a B-29 Superfortress called Bock’s Car, took off from Tinian Island, with the prayers and blessings of its Lutheran and Catholic chaplains, and headed for Kokura, the primary target. (Its bomb was code-named "Fat Man," after Winston Churchill.) With instructions to drop the bomb only on visual sighting, Bock’s Car arrived at Kokura, which was clouded over. So after circling three times, looking for a break in the clouds, and using up a tremendous amount of valuable fuel in the process, it headed for its secondary target, Nagasaki.
after the Hiroshima bomb the IJA beleived it was the only one the Americans had. no fear
peace and sanity were just days away
They actually had several partially assembled and one completed device after Nagasaki.Little Boy's 'Gun Type' designs used 25.2kg (55.5 pounds) of Uranium-235 and yield Was 14.5 kilotons. .Fat Man was an very inefficient early implosion design Hydrogen bomb with an with 6.2kg (13.6 pounds ) of plutonium with a yield of about 21 kilotons .

speaking of blowing up islands the suggestion was made before Hiroshima to invite a Japanese delegation to witness a test firing hoping they would give up. but if it failed then it would inspire Japan to fight on. that's how unsure we were of this device. the plan was scrapped.
