The first time alarm bells started going off on John McCain - for me, at any rate - was back when he wanted to offer up some mega prize for 'anyone' who could develop a new high efficiency battery. As if some scientist working in his basement were going to develop such a thing.

We did give up on electric cars. Works well for golf carts, but Americans are way to mobile to go for such an idea as long as there is an alternative.
